Forum Rules

[1] Etiquette and Language.

    [1.1] Do not use/include profanity, swearing, cursing, racist, ethnic slurs, pornographic, sexual, drug use, religious or political content/discussion in your posts. Neither in text or in imagery.
    [1.2] Respect each other even when you have differing opinions. Insulting and personal attacks are strictly forbidden.
    [1.3] Do NOT harass, bully or stalk anyone. No matter what their history has been on these forums or elsewhere, treat them neutrally and respectfully.
    [1.4] Trolling, flaming, flame baiting, accusing, spamming or other nefarious posts are not allowed. There's a fine line between joking and trolling/flaming/flame baiting, make sure you consider how your joke can be perceived.
    [1.5] Remember that SCS Software, the admins and the moderators are all users of these forums. Treat them all with the same respect as any other user.
    [1.6] The forum language is English, if you write in a different language then provide English translations at all times. Any violating posts may be deleted without notice.
    [1.7] The use of green text is now exclusively reserved for Moderator use only and must no longer be used in any posts or user signature, by regular members, this is to signify and to differentiate between a Moderation team member speaking as a forum official (green text) or just chatting or having an opinion as an individual member (white regular text). Any non moderated posts found with green text will be edited and have the color (colour) removed without any warning, consultation or negotiation.
    The only exception is when the color is used for a moderator's username, as a mention or direct addressing.

Summary

Be mindful of what you post, use appropriate English language and don't attack the user but rather his arguments. Be respectful (even when no respect is due) at all times and use the report function when you think another user isn't returning the favor.
Treat all users equally, do not gang up on a particular user or his opinions. Do not follow anyone around and/or use past positions against the user.
Remember that what is written may not always be what is meant, it's always better to err on the side of caution (ask what the poster meant) than it is to react strongly to an intent that wasn't there. It's hard to convey sarcasm, comedy or feelings properly in text.


[2] Using the forum, making threads and posting rules.

    [2.1] Only one forum account per person is allowed. Any duplicates found will lead to moderator/administrator action on both.
    [2.2] Distributing/linking to illicit copyright protected material is strictly forbidden.
    [2.3] Discussions on how to break or circumvent copy protection is strictly forbidden.
    [2.4] Do NOT use excessive quoting. Only quote the message you are replying to and NEVER quote the message directly above yours unless you only quote a part of it. DO NOT MAKE PYRAMID QUOTES UNLESS IT IS NECESSARY. *
    [2.5] Do NOT quote images. If you need to discuss a particular image, remove the "[ img][/img]" tags around the image url.
    [2.6] Do NOT double post, if you have made a post already and yours is still the last in that thread then edit your previous post. (Exemptions of this rule include your own mod release threads, your own W.I.P. mod threads and your own media threads whether screenshots or videos, they still apply however if you are replying to someone elses mod, w.i.p. or media threads)
    [2.7] Bumping threads is generally not allowed. Don't bump unless you urgently needs help with something. Bumping to promote anything other than urgent help is not allowed. Do not abuse this as excessive bumps will be deleted (demoting the topic back down the timeline) and the topic may then be locked. (Bump deletions are solely at a Moderators discretion)
    [2.8] Only create new threads (topics) if they haven't been discussed already. If a discussion already exists then post in that thread. If the thread in question has been locked then DO NOT create another thread on the subject.
    [2.9] Cross posting is not allowed, that is only one post per issue/discussion is allowed on the forum. Creating two threads on the same subject is not allowed. Nor is posting the same post on several different threads.
    [2.10] To find out if a thread or similar discussion already exists, use google's site search. "site:forum.scssoft.com <search terms>"
    [2.11] Create your thread in the appropriate subforum. Do not create threads in the root forums. (such as the "Board Index" or "Euro Truck Simulator 2" categories)
    If you are posting in-game screenshots then use the "Board index » Euro Truck Simulator 2 » Media » Game » Screenshots" subforum.
    If you are posting a discussion about the game then use the "Board index » Euro Truck Simulator 2 » General Discussions" subforum.
    If you are requesting a feature or have a suggestion then use the "Board index » Euro Truck Simulator 2 » Feature wishlists and suggestions" subforum.
    etc.
    [2.12] Before creating a new thread in a particular subforum, read the guidelines/sticky topics first to get additional details on what you should include in your topic.

If you are replying to the message directly above yours then use the reply button and write your reply.
You don't need to quote a message unless you are replying to a specific part of a long message. (Strip out the parts you aren't replying to.)

[2.13] Posting in Mods forum (ATS and ETS2) is restricted to sharing mods and providing support, as the author of the mod.
  • [2.13.1] Each mod can only have one topic.
  • [2.13.2] Support should be provided freely and equally to any user of the forum.
  • [2.13.3] If you are sharing a modification of someone else's work, you should provide proper credits and a list of permissions, from the original authors. Failing to do such may lead to editing, locking or complete removal of the topic, at the moderating staff discretion.
  • [2.13.4] Nevertheless, the moderating staff and / or SCS Software hold no responsibility for the posted content, the needed permissions or displayed credits. It is the sole responsibility of the topic author.
  • [2.13.5] However, it is forbidden to engage the author directly in the mod topic, even if you have identified such issues. Any discussion of this kind will be deemed off-topic and removed without notice or justification. To draw the attention of the moderation team, you must use the report function (click the Report button and explain).
  • [2.13.6] If, as a mod / topic author, you have no plans to continue support for your work, you should label the topic as [CLOSED] and notify (via report button) the moderation team, to have it locked.
  • [2.13.7] As a mod user, you should not abusively keep asking the mod author about schedules of future updates. Keep in mind that it's very annoying and might have the opposite effect.
  • [2.13.8] Seeking mod related help, if there isn't already a topic on the subject, should only be done in the Help Requests subsections, for each game.


[3] Image limitations, signatures and using the attachments feature.

    [3.1] Images posted/attached may be no larger than 960 pixels wide and 960 pixels tall. If you need to post images larger than that you should consider using an image hosting service that lets you post thumbnails with links to your large size image.
    [3.2] The forum attachment feature is reserved for bug reporting and technical assistance matters with the core/vanilla/unmodified game. Attachments made outside of these limitations will be deleted without warning.
    [3.3] Signatures fall under the same rules as thread/post content with the following implicit rules.
    [3.4] Signatures (all content) may be no larger than 960 pixels wide and 150 pixels high. Avoid using flashy content in signatures to draw attention to your signature, this is dealt with on a case by case basis by the moderating staff.
    [3.5] You may include links in your signature to SCS Software related websites/pages including your own mod site, photo collections (truck/game related) and/or project page. (truck/game related)
    Remember that your signature may still not breach the size and "flashiness" threshold.
    [3.6] Avoid posting images with flashing content at all times. Signature or otherwise in respect for people suffering from epilepsy. You can still of course link to such images but do not use IMG tags on them. An epilepsy warning is in order for such linked images but the rule is no flashing images on the forum.

Your signature will be replaced without notice if it does not follow these requirements.

[4] Advertising, sales and money making schemes.

    [4.1] Using the forum for advertising products or pages not related to SCS Software or it's games is strictly forbidden!
    [4.2] Repeated advertising of the same product or page related to SCS Software or it's games is prohibited. Only one thread per website/product per user is allowed.
    [4.3] One donation link per project is allowed. Where project refers to one thread related to whatever it is you are making. Under the following conditions.
      [4.3.1] You have already released your work.
      [4.3.2] You don't demand donations to continue your work. (We won't force you to continue your work without donations, but you may not say "donate or i stop work on this" either.)
      [4.3.3] Monetary benefits are not to be used in competitions. That is, you can't ask for (monetary) benefits to create a lottery or random giveaways.
      [4.3.4] Work donations are not monetary donations. For instance... "submit a mod to my site and you may win" isn't a monetary donation and is thusly allowed.
      [4.3.5] You may not (as per above) repeatedly post/advertise your donation link, having a donation link in your signature is not allowed.
      [4.3.6] You may thank users for donations occasionally but you may not ask repeatedly for more donations. Make your one plea for donations in your project threads first post.
    [4.4] Trading real life or virtual items and services is not allowed, use the appropriate trading/hiring sites for this. This includes trading games or PC components. This also includes "modders for hire" or "rent a programmer" schemes.
    [4.5] All work on these forums are done on a voluntary basis, you may ask for help and you may offer help to others. As long as you do so free of charge without any obligations from either party involved.
    [4.6] In regards to paid mod content, if you are to showcase your work here you MUST oblige to the following conditions. In any other case (or if a moderator deems it warranted) your thread or post with links or other content in respect to paid mod content will be deleted or moved to the graveyard.
      [4.6.1] Any and all paid mod content can only be showcased on these forums. That means, only screenshots and one link to the page where people can get that content.
      [4.6.2] No customer support is to be conducted on these forums, that is the responsibility of the mod maker selling his/her mod on their site. Mod related support is allowed however, the same way free mods are handled on these forums, under the same forum rule limitations.
      [4.6.3] No mention of product price, sales pitches, deals or other advertisement of your product is allowed. All that belongs on your own site and product pages. Which is accessible through the one and only link.
      [4.6.4] If you are creating a thread or making a post showcasing paid mod content you MUST put a BIG BOLD WARNING stating that what is being showcased is paid content and you MUST link to the page where what is being showcased can be purchased. That is, the specific product page. Not your home page listing all your products.
      [4.6.5] Seeing as how you are being ALLOWED to link to and showcase paid content on these forums, we (moderators) will hold your thread and/or posts to a higher standard. This means a very detailed description of the content you are showing is required. This to prevent people from simply using our forums as an advertisement board and merely posting a screenshot and a link.
      Show that you are proud of your work here.
      [4.6.6] No discussion on the matter of whether paid mod content is right or wrong in the respective threads. Such off topic discussion belongs in the off topic section of the forums.


[5] Backseat moderation and use of the report function.

    [5.1] We do NOT tolerate backseat moderation. If you have an issue with a certain user, post, thread or signature then use the report button. *
    [5.2] Do NOT reply to spam/advertisement posts/threads. Use the report button. *
    [5.3] If you are getting PMs (Personal Messages) from other users on these forums that breaks the forum rules, use the report button. *
    [5.1] If you want to help a user with forum tags etc then please feel free to do so. However, be prepared to edit/delete your posts or have your post deleted when the issue has been resolved. In most cases it's more efficient to use the report button. *

Limitations

The SCS Software staff, admins and moderators reserve the right to change these rules without advance notice.
We deal with each rule violation on a case by case basis and the nature of our moderation is based on our own judgement.
We cannot guarantee that each rule violation is dealt with equally, nor can we guarantee that all rule violations both past and present be dealt with. In many cases we miss some, which is why reporting certain posts really helps us help you keep this forum running smoothly.

The forum rules have been updated today, Wednesday the 22nd July 2015.
The changes are in relation to paid mod content and can be found under section [4.6]

Any mod maker who accepts payment for their mods should adhere to these rules with extra due care and respect. Or face post/thread removal.

The forum rules have been updated today, Monday the 23rd of November 2015.

[1.7] The use of green text is now exclusively reserved for Moderator use only and must no longer be used in any posts by regular members, this is to signify and to differentiate between a Moderation team member speaking as a forum official (green text) or just chatting and/or having an opinion as an individual regular member (white standard text). Any non moderated posts found with green text will be edited and have the color (colour) removed without any warning, consultation or negotiation.

In light of recent events it has become clear that some members are unable to differentiate when a member of the forum moderation team is speaking as a regular everyday member with the same entitlement to an opinion as any other forum member or speaking as an official "voice of SCS", hopefully now with this new addition to the rules those members will no longer find it so confusing.

Thank you for your cooperation and support.

So from here on out, if you use the attachment feature on the forum for ANY kind of file that doesn't relate to the standard game, it will be removed.

Please try to be mindful of what animated images you display on these forums, people with epilepsy can have a seizure from simply seeing one for a few seconds.
