uset g_hshifter_synchronized "0" tips?

#1 Post by RiftFlyer » 16 Dec 2016 11:52

Hi all,

In order to improve realism I set uset g_hshifter_synchronized "1" to "0" in the config. I'm using a w900 with Eaton Fuller 13spd transmission. With synchro off (as it should be for this gearbox) I'm really struggling to find gears consistently. For example 1000rpm @ 10mph matches fourth gear but sometimes I just can't get the gear to slot. I have the same problem with the other gears. It doesn't make any difference if I float or double clutch. It seems inconsistent. Has anyone got any tips? Is it just a matter of more practice.

I have not tried this yet, but I read last night that this feature is not fully done yet, if that has anything to do with it I dunno...
Unless I read an old post but I think it was fairly recent... damn I'm unsure now xD

I might try this too as I just got my G29, first time I have a proper setup with shifter and all.. :D

If it helps, there's about 400rpm between full shifts and 200rpm between splits. So gearing up, if you change gears at 1,500rpm, you should find your slot at around 1,100rpm (or 1,300 if splitting). Gearing down you do the opposite - if you change at 1,500, increase revs to 1,900.

Of course this is all dependant on your road speed. If you're going up a steep hill for example and gear down at 1,200, you may find that the next full gear down shifts at 1,400 and not 1,600 as the truck loses speed. Likewise if going down a hill and gearing up at 1,500, your next full gear change may occur at 1,300 and not 1,100 as the truck increases speed.
Never argue with idiots. They bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I just got a new shifter for the g27 today (not CSIO due to poor feedback on customer service and delays). It has a range and splitter switches. That coupled with a lot more practice I find I can float gears a lot easier now. I still have synchro enabled so I can clutch as a backup but I will try again with it disabled after a bit more practice. I'm also in the planning stages of a custom force feedback shifter. If I can expose the correct data from the sim my plan is to try and have a servo gate prevent slotting of the gear stick unless the gear rpms are in sync. This would be much more realistic as it adds the missing feel that a real truck would have.
