[REL] Trailmobile SuperVan 90 [1.1.2 09/12/2021]

SCS as a company do not wish to have paid mods on this forum. While we understand that not all paid mods use the Intellectual Property of other companies/people, it is very hard to moderate what is and isn't acceptable when money is involved. There are also concerns that it could look unfavorable to potential work partners going forward if SCS allow mods that may potentially use unlicensed branding.

[REL] Trailmobile SuperVan 90 [1.1.2 09/12/2021]

Description:
Information about older Canadian semitrailers is scarce on the internet, but if you look through enough 1980's/90's Canadian trucking photos, the distinctive SuperVan 90 wordmark is likely to catch your eye more than a few times. As far as I know, these would have been made in the Brampton, ON plant starting in the early 80's.

This mod adds two variants of a classic Canadian dry van: one with a 2+1 midlift (non-steer) axle configuration and one with a tridem, both 48' x 102". Naturally, this mod fully supports advanced coupling and trailer paint jobs and, of course, it is fully stand-alone.

Special Thanks:

Software Used:
  • Blender 2.78

----- Original Post: -----

This is something I started after my surgery last month; The painkillers were potent enough that I didn't want to work on anything important.

The SuperVan 90 is a Canadian Trailmobile model that was made in the Brampton, ON plant. I think it was produced mostly in the mid-late 80's, but it's extremely hard to find much information beyond when the trademark was filed, updated and expired. Maritime Ontario had a few in their fleet, and from my limited research it looks like a few outfits in Quebec had some as well. I have no idea what, specifically, separated it from the Van 80 series, but I look forward to finding out some day.

In addition to the 1+2 configuration shown, I'm also doing a tridem on 72" centers. I'm going full Canuck on this one. ;)

What about also a dual axle one as well?

I'm considering it, but for now I want to focus on the 1+2. It should be pretty unique among the current selection of van trailer mods. ;)

Ooooo Caaaanaaaadaaaa!

Been hoping to see some trailers with Canadian configurations from you. Just throwing an idea out there, but is there any chance in the (distant) future that you'll consider making a trailer (perhaps not this one, I'm speaking in general) with either 1+3, 1+1+3 or 1+3+1 configurations like I see in Ontario? Those trailers look awesome! :D

I do have plans for a SPIF 3 (1+3) although it's a little more on the French Canuck end of the spectrum... I'll reveal more in due course. :)

Cool! :D

I've been following a guy on Flickr named Isaiah who posts Ontario truck pics almost daily and I find those configurations fascinating (I guess because I'm so used to seeing the 8-axle trucks in my state). The SPIF #6 and #7 configurations in particular look insane. :o

I have no idea how you find all these references for the most obscure of the obscure, but I'm so glad you do. When you posted this WIP on your facebook page I had a go at finding pictures of it, and only with your help (mentioning that Maritime Quebec used them) was I able to find enough to see that they even existed. Eagerly awaiting another great trailer from you!

edit: Wow, I looked at Isaiah's Flickr and you're right, there's all kinds of crazy stuff in Toronto you never see here in BC. Until now I never realized that maybe BC with it's 5 B-trains for every normal trailer might be the exception.

Great job Smarty
Would you consider making in the future an american classic like the Fruehauf Z van (1965-1986) ?
