No stop on I-40 Kingman–Flagstaff [FIXED]

#1 Post by San_Sany4 » 05 Mar 2017 12:03

There is no single fuel station or rest stop between Kingman and Flagstaff on I-40. I think it's a major map design flaw.

There's 140 miles without a single stop. If you passed Kingman, you have no way to sleep or refuel until you get to Flagstaff. I drive with no Route Advisor, so I can only know when to rest by my driver's yawn. First yawn is happening when 2 hours left. If I just passed Kingman and my driver yawns, I will barely have time to drive to Flagstaff before sleep timer rolls to 0h 0m, and I have to floor my pedal, even speeding sometimes.

If you passed Flagstaff, you can go to fuel station on Route 66, but you won't win a lot of time because of turns and twists and intersections slowing you down.

Situation is even worse if you driving from Camp Verde to Kingman by AZ 89 and I-40: 160 miles without any stop.

It can be fixed by adding 1 or 2 stops between Flagstaff and Kingman. Preferably between Route 66 interchange and AZ 89 interchange. Or maybe near HMS company on Route 66 — it would be close enough to I-40 but easier to put on map. At the I-40/AZ 89 interchange is a good place too.

I forwarded it to world building gods.

We will see what happens.

The dashboards have a clock on them. If you make a mental note of what time your driving hours expire, you'll know to whether to keep going or take the alternate route with the gas/rest stop on it.

When you're driving from Sacramento or Winnemucca, to the time you reach Kingman you'll already forgot about this and it can hit you badly. AFAIK it's the only map segment such long with no way to rest or refuel or even return to nearby city fast. And in my 389 if you're using the clock, you'll have to sacrifice more useful info.

You know what else have real dashboards? Tachograph. If it can be added to game, it would be really great! It doesn't have to be complicated, just a screen that displays countdown before rest. People like me, who like realism, won't have to use Route Advisor anymore (or use it considerably less often). It doesn't even have to be in plain sight or have large digits, if you can turn your camera and read it with zoom, it's OK because you won't stare at it all the time anyway.

Good news everyone !

We added a rest stop with a gas station there so that should help you out with your route planning in the future.

You will see it in some of the future updates.

That's awesome to hear! Thank you a lot! Any ETA on getting this in the release, even roughly approximate? I hope we don't have to wait 1.8 for it…

Hopefully it should be included in one of the Beta updates.

Yay, I can finally rest around Kingman without having to illegally park my trailer in Plasters & Sons backyard.
I have approximate knowledge of many things
