Why is liver paste in the fragile cargo group [20531, 38071]

#1 Post by Steve Pitts » 22 Apr 2017 20:22

Subject says it all really and no doubt one could be grumpy and consider this to not meet the bug reporting rules.

Applies to latest version (1.27.1.6s), 64 bit
100% reproducible (easiest way to spot is by selecting the Fragile symbol in the Freight Market)

/def/cargo/liver_paste.dlc_north.sii contains

Code: Select all

cargo_data: cargo.liver_paste
{
  name: "@@cn_liver_paste@@"
  fragility: 0.4
  price_coef: 1.295
  group[]: containers
  group[]: fragile
}
Given the above and the fact that I'm running an unmodified version of the game I see no point in posting game log.

While I'm sure liver paste can be had in a can, I've also seen it in glass jars, and in soft plastic "sacks". Maybe that's what they are thinking of when the label it fragile? :? Just a possible reason.

The only other cargoes in the fragile group have a fragility rating of 1.0 and the cargoes marked with a fragile icon (as opposed to being in the fragile group) all have a fragility of .75 or higher, so I would be surprised if this was deliberate.

If it's in glass, then they are usually a lot tighter packed, which means there is less chance of them hitting each other and breaking like wine bottles for example. So it makes sense that they are in the fragile group but a lower number.

I'm not really sure if this is a bug/accident or not, however I will list it on MANTIS as feedback under QA 38071.

Thanks Moh. Obviously only SCS can say what the intent was but I see a fragility of 0.4 but no fragile group for other goods that often come in glass jars - honey, peanut butter, vinegar.

Not a bug....but maybe a discussion topic about various cargo groups and what should be in which one should be useful.

Perhaps we need to understand what those cargo groups are used for, other than limiting the loads displayed in the Freight Market et al. It has always seemed illogical to me that some of the most fragile cargoes in the game (at least in terms of their fragility rating) are not included in the Fragile group, and I really don't understand why liver paste is when it doesn't even warrant the Fragile symbol. However, if the only use is for selecting a subset of jobs then I guess it doesn't matter a great deal.

There are more discrepancies between fragility values and fragile group. We are aware of this issue and it will be fixed in one of the future patches.
