English confirmation button need spelling correction [FIXED]

#1 Post by drmandarin » 18 May 2017 15:37

In English, "Ok" is not correct. The correct form is "OK" - note capitalisation.
Please fix incorrect usages of "Ok" on in-game button labels.

On the other hand if OK (or ok) is a shortened form of okay, and as OK is pronounced okay, then you could argue that "Ok" is fine if its starting a sentence.

Now if we were just sounding each letter individually like you would with the BBC or when referring to VAT, or taking about the UN then yes it should be capitals.

But instead ok is pronounced as a word okay, and as it has an extremely wide spread common usage, then like the words such as laser (Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation) and radar (RAdio Detection And Ranging) Lidar (Light Imaging, Detection, And Ranging) or pin number (Personal Identification Number [with a redundant "number" after it to differentiate it from other uses of pin) lower case is fine, so OK, Ok or ok are all okay apart from oK which is not.

You then have other words like Nato|nato|NATO, Nasa|nasa|NASA, Unesco|unesco|UNESCO which appear in multiple forms.

IMO.

@b101uk: O.K. is actually an abbreviation, so it is never really acceptable to use a lower case k. The word Okay is not the origin of O.K. but is in fact the phonetic spelling of it.

While the origin of O.K. is disputed, nearly all versions agree it is an abbreviation.

Random Knowledge for the day. :)

Why is Viktor white? Does he not like having a fancy gold name? :P

If this is supposed to be a Bug Report, why wasn't a proper Bug Report made in compliance with the Bug Reporting Process for ETS2? A debate about which form of Ok, ok, Okay or O.K. is acceptable is a moot point in my opinion, as all of them are widely used and accepted by the Internet community at large and everyone knows what they are referring to. On the other hand, how many people actually know what O.K. is an abbreviation of?

Because the Bug Reporting Process doesn't tell you how to report localisation problems?

And yes, they maybe widely used, but so is txt spk. Should SCS add that as an option too? Of course not. It's called professionalism.

You missed my point. If people are going to nit pick about something that is not necessarily a "rule of international grammar" about Ok vs ok, etc., then why not nit pick about following the rules and guidelines of this forum?

"The expression may have several possible etymological origins. It is still not possible to state where or on what date the expression "OK" appeared.

See below some opinions about the origin of "O.K".

The etymology of the word is much discussed. Many scholars believe that it is a distortion of the expression All Correct (by "Oll Korrekt"), which means "everything is correct", whose origin probably goes back to the expression Olles kloer of the German low."
