Re: New renault - when?
yes I did know that.
That's how the President and CEO of Scania pronounces it, I would imagine he'd be the person to know.

If you want to argue with the President and CEO of Scania on how he pronounces it that's your prerogative. By all means give him a call, I'm sure you can find a contact number on their website.

Re: New renault - when?
Are you serious? So the way the CEO of a company pronounces the name is the right way? So if the next CEO is Chinese we all should have to pronounce that Swedish name with a Chinese accent?

Re: New renault - when?
Who cares how "SCANIA" is spoken by the Swedes if it isn't a true Swedish word?
Wikipedia says (I have no idea how true this is):

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ScaniaThe endonym used in Swedish and other North Germanic languages is Skåne (formerly spelled Skaane in Danish and Norwegian). The Latinized form Scania occurs especially in British English as an exonym.

Re: New renault - when?
Scania ist pronounced like you write ist "Scania" there is no R or other letters in it only because the CEO said Scarnia it doesn't mean it is pronounced this way
English people even pronounce it "Scenia" or in Germany i hear it like you write it "Scania" but never in my life i heard of Scarnia even the people at the reveal event of the New Scania said "Scania"

Re: New renault - when?
I can honestly say that is one I have not personally heard before. I tend to go with Scaan (scar sound) ya. When I first "noticed" Scania trucks, I was 8 I had no knowledge of trucks or where they were made etc. So I just guessed and the pronunciation for me stuck that way. Like most people with language, we tend to stick with how our parents pronounce things or the people teaching us at school or we guess based on what we already know. And that's why regional accents exist.CARL1992 wrote:English people even pronounce it "Scenia"
I think DWVTLtd means the long "a" sound which in English phonetics may be written as 'ar' but not pronounced with an 'r' sound.

Re: New renault - when?
The last time I was reasoning about this was in the summer of 1973. When I first recognized a Scania truck, which was parked in my neighborhood, over the weekend. That was on vacation in Switzerland, and I asked myself if the "I" was spoken as an I or as a J. At that time I didn't even knew it was Swedish, though I thought it sounds Scandinavian.
I knew nobody who was only in the slightest interested in trucks, then. And without personal computers it very hard to ask the Internet.
