In the neighborhood

#1 Post by abasstreppas » 16 Jul 2016 21:53

I recently moved to an area called Midsommarkransen in Stockholm. It is located just beside Västberga industrial area, on the other side of the highway. You definitely know the place Västberga from the Scandinavian DLC ;)

On my way home I took a detour there on my bicycle, trying to look for some reference material for my modding projects. I did find some other stuff though :P

Places like this tend to be really rare in Stockholm nowadays. All old industrial areas get torn down and replaced with new shiny homes

I like the train cars. We have several like that here in Eureka that were cut off from the main train routes after an earthquake back in the 1990's. They have similar paint jobs (graffiti) but are all iron and steel. The state made the railroads come back and dismantle most of them because of pollution dangers recently. Specially the engines. They're in pretty bad shape after all the years they've been just sitting there deteriorating, and a lot of chemicals are seeping into the ground. The property they're sitting on is owned by the richest guy in town and the California Coastal Commission won't let him build anything there for that reason. To say the least, he ain't too happy about that...

Just after 12 o'clock today i was at my home when I suddenly heard a big bang, like someone dropping a 30 feet container to the ground. And just second after that another bang, more like an explosion. 10 minutes later the sound of firetrucks... then another bang. I looked ouside my window, towards the motorway, the vehicles started to que up. A minute later the traffic was at full stop. A decided to take a look at the spectacle so I jumped on my bicycle and headed south along the bicycle road that runs along the highway.

When I arrived to the place 500 meters from my home the big fire was already extinguished and the firemen was doing the final extinction

The driver has probably hit the traffic divider with the left front wheel/axle when realizing he/she was in the wrong lane. Ripping off the front axle, making the truck flying over to the second lane and hitting the concrete barrier and that impact made the diesel tank to caught fire

After a while I decided to give up and this is the last picture. I also have to mention that when I got home I read on the news that no one was hurt :)
