Sudden loss of force feedback

Now and again i've experienced a sudden loss of almost all force feedback (i think the "engine bit" of the FFB stays intact). When this happens, any changes to FFB in the options menu seems to be ignored all together. The FFB is restored immediately after restarting the game and any changes made while in the unresponsive state will be knowledged after the restart.

I haven't been able to pinpoint what causes this. It's not a major problem since it's quite rare and a game restart will fix it, but just out of curiosity, has anyone experienced this and do you know what causes it?

I doubt it has anything to do with my controller (eg overheating), since i've never experienced anything similar in any of the other simdriving titles i use frequently - not even after extremely long driving sessions with a lot stronger FFB. For the record i'm using a Fanatec CSW V2 wheelbase.
