Speed penalty

#1 Post by facex » 16 Mar 2017 19:40

In the gameplay menu i have enabled truck speed limit (80 km/h). When i drive 90 km/h on german highways without speed limit, police cars give me penalty. that is correct?

Yes, trucks must keep to 80km/h speed limit even on the "unlimited-speed" sections.

ETS2 is more strict here than real life police. 90 km/h is tolerated in Germany 'because of the 90 km/h limit in other European countries'. Not sure if anything can be done about it in the game.

I suspect that what is possibly needed is something similar to the torque curve parameter for engines, but for probability of enforcement. I.e. leave the limit coded as 80 kmh in Germany, but have a near zero chance of being fined below 90 kmh, rising to near certain somewhere not far above 90 kmh.

There is a general truck speed limit of 80 km/h in Germany, also on autobahns.
You can drive 85 km/h in most of the countries in game without getting a fine. 86 km/h and you get a fine.
That's my experience.

Yes Flemming, that's why I wrote it's tolerated. There are numerous references for those 90 km/h on the net (if you speak German ;-) ) and the speed limiter for trucks registered in Germany is also set to 90, not 80 km/h.

Wiki says: 80 km/h (What do I know) ;)

"There is a general speed limit of 80 km/h (50 mph) for trucks with a GVWR over 3,500 kg (7,716 lbs) and for vehicles with trailers."

This one also says 80 km/h, are you sure about the 90 km/h?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_limits_by_country

But I am pretty sure that we get a fine in Germany in game when we drive 86 km/h not matter the real rulez. ;)

Hello SCS and others,

Just wanted to add my 2cents per the new (ETS2 v1.27) police cars and truck speeding fines.

While I'm OK with the legacy speed camera enforcement, I had a miserable time last night getting harassed by virtual cops for exceeding 80 kph on German autobahns during a WoT delivery (speed limited to 90 kph). The swine got on my tail and repeatedly fined me, 3+ times in a row over a couple minutes. I ended up pulling over, trying to get smokey off my six.

The fines aren't an issue, as my high level account has plenty of surplus funds. Living in a world with increasingly militarized and abusive 'police force' ( #MAGA god bless ), the last thing I want is to have that shoved back in my face when trying to relax and deliver virtual goods while exploring Europe.

Sure, i'll pursue mods that alter this behaviour. Still it would be nice if there was an option to tame this new virtual gestapo force.

Edit: typo
