How to recover a deleted profile

#1 Post by pathfinder » 09 Apr 2013 22:33

This is a simple question, is it possible to recover one of my Profiles that I deleted by mistake?

Check your $Recycle Bin and see if the folder is recoverable. It should be.

Not in the game... Open Windows Explorer, and look in the left-pane for the folder named $Recycle Bin.
Click on that folder and then look for your deleted Profile folder. If you find it, select it and right-click to "Restore" from the menu.

Wouldn't this only work if he deleted the folder from Windows Explorer?

What if he deleted the "profile" from within the game gui?

Knowing that Windows doesn't really "delete" folders or files, but simply moves their indexed pointers to the $Recycle Bin for later possible recovery, it should still work. The actual folder/file deletion is handled by the operating system.

Until and unless the user deliberately chooses to use the "Empty Recycle Bin" function, the actual bits of the data remain intact on the hard drive.

No. The program needs to have explicit support to take advantage of the recycle bin. Otherwise it just deletes the file. ETS2 does not support recycle bin.

On the other hand some versions of Windows keep previous versions of some files so it might be possible to find older version of the profile http://www.howtogeek.com/56891/use-wind ... our-files/.
