It seems to be related to opening the audio device each time ptt is used because if I keep the Windows audio settings window open in the background (and thus the audio device open) the stutter...

It's free community's work. Only SCS have oficial copyrights on some code and files. That's not how copyright works. If you make a new truck from scratch you own the copyright to that too (not taking into account possible trademark infringements). Any mod for any game can be stolen, it's really not...

You should really watch some of them ootoob videos. As someone who's also learning Blender (and battling with the frustrating user interface) they really help.
