First I was thinking that the mod from Remon Pnoill Israil: RPIE VOLVO FH16 2012 | 4 DLC & Ver.1.39.1.0s REQUIRED causes the problem. Point is:
In 1.38 it worked perfectly. So it can not be wrong settings and wrong configuration.

The only option is to set ETS2 in steam in the 1.38 mode, set the 1.38 profiles back and update to 1.39.
Maybe that solve the problem.

It could be a bug around your settings?

I set it on a different setting. Result: none.

But I have using several trucks with several transmissions (all with retarder) with the same results.

It is not that I am a noob.
I have more that 4000 hour driven in ETS2. And I have had participate several times with Experimental Betas and Public betas.

Seems to be the case

I have (as I wrote before )

I did.

Even with my vanilla profile where I did not use any mod ever, does the retarder not work.
I set in the options "auto retarder" on.
And I am using the transmission with retarder.
