G27 MOD - Scania knob + button panel

#1 Post by cleber_oro » 28 Aug 2015 03:58

First of all, English is not my first language, so be patient :D

Is not a very difficult task, almost everyone can do it.

Adapting mechanically the Scania knob
There is a "little" diameter difference between the pieces. I've bought a piece of nylon with 20mm diameter and 80mm length. I made an 8mm hole on one face (35mm).
For me the adjustment was perfect (no gap).

Electronic adaptation is easy too, just solder the wires.

To connect the knob on the pc the best/secure/easy way is: buy a generic joypad/joystick and disassemble it. (google it, you will find many videos explaining how to find the correct points to solder)
From this point forward is also used to button panel.

Then, solder the wires and test, test test. (knob splitters up = buttons off, knob splitters down = buttons on)

After all be working properly is time to set in game.

Knob buttons to up and start the game. In settings set as gear select 1 and gear select 2. Exit the game.
Open controls.sii (Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2\profiles\), search for "gearsel1tgl", copy the command (for me joy.b5?0), paste it in gearsel1off and in gearsel1on paste and add ! in front (!joy.b5?0). Made de same for gearsel2.

Before

Code: Select all

 config_lines[252]: "mix gearsel1on ``"
 config_lines[253]: "mix gearsel1off ``"
 config_lines[254]: "mix gearsel1tgl `joy.b5?0`"
 config_lines[255]: "mix gearsel2on ``"
 config_lines[256]: "mix gearsel2off ``"
 config_lines[257]: "mix gearsel2tgl `joy.b7?0`"
After

Code: Select all

 config_lines[252]: "mix gearsel1on `!joy.b5?0`"
 config_lines[253]: "mix gearsel1off `joy.b5?0`"
 config_lines[254]: "mix gearsel1tgl ``"
 config_lines[255]: "mix gearsel2on `!joy.b7?0`"
 config_lines[256]: "mix gearsel2off `joy.b7?0`"
 config_lines[257]: "mix gearsel2tgl ``"
You are almost there! Now, you "only" have to set the proper layout to your truck and enjoy it!

Thanks!

So if i get this right, the first step is to break into a truck and jerk the knob. Gotcha! (hi reef)

On a more serious note, did you just press fit that piece of plastic into the shifter knob?

Are there threads on the G27 shifter post?
If there are i would probably screw a nut on there and put superglue on it then slide the shifter knob over that and wait.
Then one can unthread it.

Thanks!

Just to check i understand this correctly; are the wires from the gear shifter connected/soldered to a disassembled joystick pushbutton connectors and that joystick then connected to your PC normally via USB?
I've never done that before, so I'm sure I can do it (Långstrump, Pippi)

Very interesting, I may look at trying something like this (but with a DAF 4 over 4 shifter) time to find a truck breakers me thinks ;)

Oh and just to be clear Cadde, if you ever break into my truck with the intention of jerking my knob, you will be formally introduced to my best mate, the tyre iron!

No, not at all, I think my reply must have flown past yours if that's what you think :?

anyway..
@ R0adrunner If you think I'm paying 60 quid give or take then you've seriously misjudged how much of a tight arse I am, I'd go to a scrappy and would walk away if they want anything over a tenner.

Also as I feared the DAFs don't use electric switches they use air switches/valves that's why I was surprised the Scania one was so easy to do, I never knew they used electric switches till the O.P. showed us how he did his.

I'd have to get a Scania one and change the H image on the top to correspond to the DAF 4 over 4.

This is of course assuming that I can actually be bothered to do all this, which in most likelihood if I'm honest I probably wont

Cadde Is a possibility
But I think is easier you buy the knob, it is cheap. I've paid less than 50 dollars. For de plastic piece less than 50 cents.
I only assemble the pieces, without glue or screw. I'm able to disassemble and back the original at any time.

R0adrunner Yes, it's simple, didn't?

Reef You can do this with all knobs who have electric control.
