How to Activate a purchased ETS2 key on Steam [guide]

#1 Post by Reef » 06 Sep 2014 10:17

As this is a frequently asked question that often gets answered but then swamped in a debate here is a very simple guide on how to Activate your ETS2 game on Steam with your genuine CD or Digital Download product key.

1) Open the Steam client by clicking on the Steam desktop icon or via the Start menu

2) If you have a CDRom Disc (hard copy) of the game then find and open the CD case so you have access to the Product code (code = xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx)

2a) If you have purchased ETS2 via Digital Download (either directly from the SCS website or online shops like Amazon, G2A or Humblebundle) you will need to open your e-mail that you used to register the product with and that holds your product key (product key information is often held within your online shops purchase history or account overview too)

3) Observe pictures..

4) Follow instructions (i.e. enter the key when and where prompted)

5) ETS2 will now download through the Steam client and will show in your library

6) Once completed you can launch the game through Steam

Now you will be able to use the metallic paint DLC (free on Steam) and also any other Steam exclusive DLC's and you will be able to unlock Steam achievements too.

Notes:

a) If you purchased the Going East and/or Scandinavian DLC's prior to Steam activation then you will need to follow the above steps with those product keys too

b) If you wish to keep your old profiles and setting prior to the Steam install then you will need to make a backup (rename) or completely remove (to say your desktop) the Euro Truck Simulator 2 folder that is located in "C:\Users\*Your User name*\Documents" and once the Steam download is complete you can copy or move the mod and profiles (and also the config.cfg if you'd edited that before the Steam install) from your original Euro Truck Simulator 2 folder into the newly created one
