smart phone head tracking

#1 Post by nudelife0 » 18 Mar 2015 03:33

I found something in youtube
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Pts_sotjMA

https://github.com/opentrack/opentrack/ ... adtracking

A simple install and usage instruction:

1.download the rar file and extract to the harddisk
2.download the preset .ini file to the extracted setting folder (it is the config file controlling the rotation angle)
3.copy the apk to android phone and install(included in the rar)
4.start the pc freetrack by clicking opentrack.exe(installation not required)
5.click the start button
6.connect the phone to the same lan as your pc(e.g. connect to the same wifi network)
7.start the phone app, enter the ip of your pc, click start
8.start the game and enjoy

Here is another VR option :

Since I found this one. I feel the installation and setup complicated so I put it aside.
Today, I want to report to all of you that is not true.
In fact it is very easy to install and setup. Just a few file copies. Point to the correct IP address, start the game, that's all.
The effect is absolutely great as a free solution.

:D it's time to consider an Android phone then

FYI, I am using my 3 years obsolete Android phone. It's the cheapest Sony phone at that time and it works fine for this app.

I highly recommend this app to all of you.

Today I have tried a new toy - Google Cardboard.
Start ETS2 in Oculus mode, then stream the PC display to android phone by 3rd party software.
Though I never tried Oculus rift but after playing with Google Cardboard, I don't recommend anyone purchase Oculus rift at the moment. 3D tech is still at a very infant stage. Don't waste the money. If you want to experience 3D gaming tech, simply paid some dollars on Google cardboard. The price of DK2 is way too much.

I am sorry to get this old thread back up again, I just stumbled over it.
Did SCS made this solution obsolete?
I mean, i set up everything accordingly and the ETS2 just says, no Headtracker found? Do I have to use a Tobii now?

No. Any other headtracking solution is supposed to use the TrackIR software interface of the game, and that hasn't changed.

No idea what your problem is, I use a TrackIR 5 device since the game was released, without any problem.

Thats strange then, i set it up correctly, and it was recording the movement correctly. I also used the freetrack protocol
but ETS2 just says, no hardware detected :/
