I'm a bit confused.

Does this have a performance hit during play, or does it somehow only affect screenshots?

It only works using F10? So my distant camera mod is useless as I have to be outside the photo studio mode?

1. Yes, that's why I don't use it.
2. You can use photo studio but you must press f10

So is this the same as setting scaling in the game to 200 % performance-wise? I wonder why one would bother with editing config files if one can achieve the same thing using the game options screen?

no this is like dual scaling in other words i can set my ets2 to 300% scaling in game and won't lag but if i have it set to 200% in game and have it set to 3 in the config file then i lag at like 1fps not entirely sure how it works but i do know there is a difference and BK Vissers if you activate the in game console you can use the free fly camera

Thanks, Worksgr8.

The camera mod I use seems to be fine, thanks for the tip all the same.

Unfortunately using this scaling feature causes no end of stuttering and problems - at least in Paris and all the newer redone higher detail texture areas of France. Pity. I'd like to have better screenshots but not at the expense of reasonably smooth play.

Appreciate the help!

From what you guys seem to describe, this huge fps drop arises when taking screenshots whilst in driving mode (free cam mode) and not through the photo studio coz I take mine in the photo studio and although a freeze of about 5 secs follows after I've hit the F10 key, there has been no performance drops when I return to the driving mode. That huge freeze is coz the game captures the scene at a much higher resolution set by myself.

I find the screenshot quality to be much better than what I used to get from 400% scaling & SweetFX FXAA.

If you guys capture photos in the free cam mode, it'd be wise to steer clear of the 'hq' options.

No, the freeze/stuttering I'm getting is in actual driving, not taking any shots. If it simply took longer to take a picture I'd not care as it would be worth it.

No such issues here. How do you capture screenshots?

A number of ways - the F10 while driving, or going into photo studio and using the camera there, or in photo studio hitting F10.

The normal ways, I suppose?

I'd be happy to use this HQ feature if it had no effect on driving itself. The camera causing a pause while it generates the HQ file is not an issue for me, I don't mind it. But I do mind if my normal driving is showing massive frame rate drop - like going to 1-5 FPS.

F10 while driving is a big NO NO. That is where you get the horrific robot dance. There should be no issues in the photo studio with F10 though. Restart the game, drive a bit, go to photo studio and hit F10, return back to your cab & drive a bit more.

Just to clarify, you have set;

hq_3d_screenshot: as 1
hq_3d_scale: from 1 to 4

If you make any changes to these options through the game console, a restart of the game is a must for them to take effect.
