Steam Shortcut Assistance

#1 Post by 1t5_Luc1f3r » 08 Oct 2016 14:55

Hello to all :D

I am switching from the DD version to the Steam version and wish to know if I can have multiple shortcuts for the steam variant...

For my DD variant I have 3 separate folders within "My Documents" MHAPro and ProMods and TSM and have 3 separate shortcuts for this. The reason for this is I like to keep the mod list within the game empty of any unused mods used for other profiles and individually sandboxed (This satisfies my OCD)

For example my target directories are:
MHAPro -homedir "E:\My Documents\My Games\Euro Truck Simulator 2 MHA Pro EU"
ProMods -homedir "E:\My Documents\My Games\Euro Truck Simulator 2 Pro Mods"
TSM -homedir "E:\My Documents\My Games\Euro Truck Simulator 2 TSM"

How would I achieve this with Steam as the steam shortcut does not give you the ability to specify a "Target" directory.

Thanks in advance

Simon
When you're down and feeling blue, just remember Eurotruck Simulator 2 or ATS where you can crash into a vehicle or 2!!!

Make a shortcut in Windows, to the game's executable, and specify the optional parameters in the Target field.
Make as many shortcuts you want, with different homedir parameter for each.

You do it in exactly the same way as the retail version.

Yes, Windows desktop shortcuts. But if you are doing it by calling the game exe in a direct manner, Steam asks you nasty questions you have to click away, each time. Since while now, before some Steam patch arrived this wasn't the case.

If you call the Steam client and tell him what game to start, the client will pass any parameter you gave him without yelling at you.

In each shortcut, there should be a statement like

Code: Select all

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe -applaunch 227300
(for ETS 2)

Code: Select all

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe -applaunch 270880

(for ATS)

Then add parameters behind such a statement. Like -homedir. In fact I use it all the time. This is an example how I call the map.editor:

Code: Select all

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe -applaunch 227300 -edit europe -force_mods -homedir C:\Users\Reinhard\Documents -64bit -rdevice dx9 -traceout -logall -unlimitedlog -error_overlay -nointro -log C:\Users\Reinhard\Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2\mapedit.-64bit.log

I dunno why I even bother creating tutorials if people then can't even be arsed to use the search function of a forum viewtopic.php?f=172&t=211477&hilit
