How does the profile backup system work?
How does the profile backup system work?
I noticed that I have a lot of profile backups accumulating from new games versions, and I also see that a backups.txt file is created which appears to be tracking those backups. What is the proper method for cleaning up old backups? Do I just delete the profiles folders that I no longer want, and then manually edit the backups.txt file, or is there another way to do this?
Re: How does the profile backup system work?
You can just delete the folders you don't want. I've never edited the backups.txt so I don't think it matters either way tbh, probably if you delete it altogether the game would create a fresh one either straight away or at next update.
Edit:
Just tried deleting the backups.txt and all but two of my backup profile folders, when I launched the game and then exited it had created a new backups.txt and just written the last (latest) profile bac folder.

The current one is the one named just "profiles" all the others called profiles(version number).bac are the backups, if your Windows file "group by" setting is set to the default "sort by names" then the most recent (last patch update) backup will be the one with the highest version number and at the bottom of the list.
