Black custom paint jobs

#1 Post by 2slow4u » 14 Sep 2021 16:03

I'm running the native Linux variant of the game (not the dx11 one), and some trucks paintjobs looks completely black.
Is there a fix for this issue?
Thank you.

I believe it has something to do with how the files themselves for the paint jobs are made. I remember seeing many map mods get reports of this happening to buildings, signs, and other custom assets. I then remember some of those mods releasing an "OpenGL version" (the graphics loader used by many Linux systems, as opposed to Microsoft's DirectX graphics loader used in Windows).
I know absolutely nothing about the workings of the graphics loaders, or what is involved in making the textures work with them. Try asking the paint creators themselves and see if maybe they know how to fix it (or maybe they already have).
Also, before you do that, go see if you can find an OpenGL version of each paint job that is broken.

there is no "Open GL Paintjob" if it is a custom one then the modder should stop using photoshop to save it as a .dds because he cleary doesnt know what he does and use conversion tools instead, if it is a paintjob from SCS report it as a bug

Nope, it's not an official SCS paintjob.
Can I do something to try to fix the problem myself?

Well, the rest of the post you are replying to does say what is wrong with a custom one, so to fix it yourself, you will need to open the texture files in an image ditor and save them as a DDS. This is going into mod development, I'd suggest looking up some guides. Alternatively, you could contact the mod developer and ask them if they can fix it.

I know this is an old thread, but I want to add to this as it is an ongoing issue with modders saving files in incorrect format: The correct way to save an image file for ETS2 and ATS is to save it as a DDS file in DXT3 format with generated mipmaps.
