I did read that. Did you notice the part where I stated it was purchased through Steam? No physical DVD, and the update happens automatically through the Steam client.

I did wipe the Steam ETS2 local games cache when I first noticed the issue and reinstalled from Steam. I did not wipe my profile however, although when I fired up the game for the first time after the 1.4.8 update applied ETS2 popped up a window about updating the savegames. I allowed it to do the savegame upgrade and it stated that it updated successfully. Perhaps that might be the issue, although it sounds like this has been happening long before version 1.4.8 was released.

Not trying to sound like a dick, really was just looking for some possible insight of what may be causing the issue. I'm not an idiot, I'm a pretty serious gamer, I've been gaming since the Commodore Vic-20, and I'm an IT consultant that troubleshoots complex software and security issues for the past 2+ decades. I realize software has bugs, things get corrupted, etc. It's just a little offputting when your first contact with the devs are accusations that this issue is caused by pirating, and no acknowledgment that there may be a possible bug.

I'll try clearing my profile and recreating, although that's more than a bit irritating after putting 30-40 hours in my game career so far. I don't mind putting in some time to try and track this issue, but lets not just brush away any possibilities besides a stupid user must be doing something wrong. :D

With all respect "Centrino2," that doesn't mean a thing for STEAM users like this fellow. They do not have a CD, DVD or downloaded installer file, much less an "Activation Code" such requires.

What it does appear to be however is that the 'piracy detection' put in place is failing miserably...

Now this begins to get serious, as you are the first one who can prove this bug happens to the un-modded game.
Although you seem to know what you're doing, I still have to ask you about the game log. Any unusual messages?
If not, then we will have to get some answer from an SCS staff member. Maybe you can send them your profile and they'll check if it's related to older version saves...
To be honest, we, beta testers, have the most abused profiles and the oldest ones (mine dates back to the 0.91x days, in september) but we've never had this kind of issues.
Retired, but still loving it.

OK, fired up the game and played for 8 minutes and was able to get the game to lose the trailer. The trailer was already connected from my previous save this afternoon and I was just starting my run. You can see there was a drive_quicksave at 6:54 that went fine. The trailer disappeared at the 8:35 mark with a regular autosave. I waited a few seconds after the trailer disappeared and the nav route cleared from GPS, then pulled up the game menu, saved out a new game slot and then shut down.

Here's the game.log from my profile:

I will hold off playing another session until I hear back from some devs so I can provide any profiles or game files they may want to help troubleshoot this issue.

One log message in particular made me curious.

Code: Select all

00:08:35.010 : Creating save-game file (/home/profiles/4D61644A656666/save/autosave/game.sii) ...
00:08:35.065 : Game has been auto-saved.
00:08:41.539 : init_truck 1ms
My question is what happens on this init_truck event? That's about when the trailer disappeared, but I don't know if it happened during the save or during this init_truck event. Since there's no visual indication of the save happening I don't know the exact point that the disappearance happens for sure.

[EDIT: Changed quote box to code box]

The init_truck tells you the game has regenerated your truck...
You can see it when the game starts:

Code: Select all

00:00:31.763 : Game init finished. (112 MB)
00:00:32.323 : init_truck 1ms
so, it's like the game gets restarted, during play, but this time just the trucks get's restored, not the trailer.

This could have something to do with a built-in fail-safe routine, introduced by the 1.4.x version, to help handling the removal or the incompatibility of a mod, especially a map mod.
If the game notices that the position of the truck, or the delivery type or the trailer model etc. is faulty, it will cancel the delivery and relocate the truck to a safe place. But this shouldn't be triggered during normal play.
Of course, I might be wrong.

I will address the devs and, maybe, you can send them your configuration and profile, to check themselves and find the combination of factors that might be leading to this fault.
Retired, but still loving it.

just note, that proper place where you should contact devs is support, not this forum. did you wrote to scs's support?

loosing jobs is known issue and happened to many people. to my knowledge: up to now, every single issue apperance (on forum and on support as well) was confirmed as not legaly bought game copy (unfortunately into this set belongs also some cheated players). furthermore there is huge number of peole that play 1.4.8s without this issue. these two facts give anyone at least solid hint to guess what might happened to you. its not accusation just simple facts.
Nobody can tell you anything about it. Those who know about it aren't allowed to talk. And those who talk know nothing.

Now we are getting somewhere. =)

I agree, the way the trailer disappears it is almost like a reinitialization. It does not seem to be location-specific as I've had it happen all over the map, and in different locations during the same run after reloading an autosave. It's definitely happening at the point the autosave happens.

I don't want to cross-post, but I probably should create a thread in the 1.4.8 bugs forum (or Technical Problems forum) since that's what I'm running. I only posted here since it was the only thread on this issue I could find that had any serious discussion of the issue.

Moderators, where would you like me to post a new thread? And thank you Ohaha for taking the time to look past the assumption of pirating to help start nailing down this issue.

Is it even possible to have a "pirated" version when it comes from Steam??? :?

It is not wise to contest forum moderators; they have more ways to admonish than you have of evading, (Shin'a'in Proverb) :)

I went ahead and started a new thread here so we could concentrate on troubleshooting the issue:

viewtopic.php?f=40&t=25000

Not trying to cross-post, just thought it would be helpful since this doesn't seem to be as specific bug to one version only.
