There are two types of plates, those with the name of the county and those with a state slogan, note that each plate has a yellow sticker on the top of the plate, which indicates the month and year of commissioning.

it is not necessary to affix a number plate to the front of a vehicle

Contry coding

The basic passenger plates follow the format AB1 2CD

The slogans of these plaques are "Sunshine State" and "In God We Trust".
They follow the 12A BCD and A12 3BC formats.

For the aprotioned paques the appearance is totally different from the basic passenger plates, you can see the year in the upper left corner and the marking "APR" on black in the centre of the plate.
The current format follow A12 34B

New Jersey

The state requires front AND rear license plates.

NJ Standard passenger vehicle design:

This plate follows the ABC-123 format.


NJ Apportioned Truck Plate Design:

This plate follows the AB-123C format.

NJ Apportioned Trailer Plate Design:

This plate follows the ABC-12D format.

Emergency vehicles:

NJ State Police 100th Anniversary Special Plate Design (2021):

These plates contain the letters "SPA" and the number "100," followed by any letter except I and O.

NJ Ambulance Plate Design:

These plates follow the OA-1234 format.

NJ Municipal Vehicles Design (applies to Municipal Police as well):

These plates follow the 12345MG format.

NJ State Government Plates:
