[REWORK] Wyoming rework tips (originally pre-research)

#1 Post by Kraake » 12 Nov 2018 18:19

Hello everybody!

As we're doing some pre-research for ATS, we'd like to know your opinion on some of the things which we shouldn't miss in the game in our future planned DLCs - in this case for the WYOMING state.

Unfortunately it can be very easy to miss some key spots when planning a future road network. We can judge only from what we read or see, while those who live there, have driven there or visited there, can point us towards some famous truck stops, interesting landmark, points of interest etc.

So we'd appreciate any tips which could be helpful for us and that could easily work with in-game mechanics. Try to keep in mind that we're interested in places connected with trucks and roads. So if you have some tips, we'd be grateful. Don't be shy to add photos / videos of said locations (in better quality, so our graphics can use them as pattern).

 For example THIS was a really great job.

In case you would like to also help us with other states check the list bellow:

COLORADO | IDAHO | MONTANA | OKLAHOMA | TEXAS | UTAH | WASHINGTON

Please be aware, that states listed here mean absolutely no promise of what's the next DLC or what states will come first. Also we can't guarantee that we'll use the research you give us - it depends on many aspects (which can't be all written here).

 General discussion about pre-researches is HERE.

Cheers!

Yellowstone National Park is a major point of interest, and could function in-game like Yosemite, where you can't drive a trailer through. Points of interest inside the park include Lake Yellowstone, Old Faithful, the many hot springs and geysers in the park, and massive herds of bison that will block the road. The park is a must for its continuations of US 191 and US 20.

In the northeast is Devil's Tower, which is more out of the way, but a major landmark that could be accessible via a spur like Crater Lake, or the nearby town of Hulett could be included, which is an agrarian town with a couple lumber mills.

Handy maps and diagrams.

Furthermore, I consider that I-80 across Nevada must be redone next.

A place like Medicine Bow national park could also be a nice place to include, and the old west-styled town of Dubois

Not sure how much use this is to SCS, but BigRigTravels drives through Wyoming a lot, especially on I-80. There is plenty of conetent here of what a trucker sees as he passes through the state. BigRigTravels also has a playlist like this for all 48 continental states. http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL ... cAujIrYic6

Very useful it shows how to build the map and scale at 1:20th scale. Having video not so useful to map builders or developers need reference maps and street view photos of the area. Which exit is this truck stop at or which mile marker does the elevation fall or rise or what railroads along the road. Crude town layouts show the truck routes and business routes needed in the game.
