[REWORK] Colorado rework tips (originally pre-research)

Dang. 1/3 of the hp robbed. Lucky for us, ATS is virtual. But I have noticed that with 1.36ob, the trucks are affected a tad bit more by the weight of the load. That is a good thing. Outside of Texas, Colorado is actually the one state I am looking forward in a lot. Its not every day I can see mountains by living in Texas. Before SCS gets to the Midwest and the East coast, I think Texas and Colorado will be two of the more popular dlc's. Montana will be behind those due to its sheer size and natural beauty. But Texas and Colorado will win lots over. Especially with SCS showing off the new rock formations in Utah. That I-70 in Colorado is gonna be one heck of a road to get in ATS.

I guess now that Colorado is inching closer, it's time to post something.

For US-40 in the northern part of the state, SCS must, must include the Rabbit Ears Motel and its iconic (neon-lit) sign in Steamboat Springs. It's the first real landmark entering downtown as you come down from Rabbit Ears Pass:

Our two most impressive natural features are the Great Sand Dunes and the Black Canyon, both national parks. Neither are a place for big rigs, and would otherwise be difficult to depict, but if SCS chooses to go the extra mile to make a scenic spur road to either, that would really be something. There is a gas station and lodging just outside the park entrance of the Great Sand Dunes, though, which could potentially serve as a rest area:

The dunes are visible from highway 17 to the west, which I would have to think would be included in the map. Perhaps include a light sand color at the base of the range in this spot for a short section (the dune field is only 8 miles long).

Interesting. Has construction already started? We might only get 2 of the 3 roundabouts though. The one Plan East might conflict with scale. Google is behind and old if construction has started. As long as SCS adds that Dairy farm, I am cool, lol. That bad boy is huge.

interestingly enough, it's almost done. they've got the northbound on and off ramps to make AFAIK and then they're done, oh and Highway 56 and I-25 is getting an overhaul as well. everything from just south of that overpass to Mulberry and I-25 in Fort Collins is getting an overhaul. almost all bridges are getting work done, express lanes are being put in, ect....

That would most likely require licensing. I would assume it's trademarked?

Trademarked or not, I'm sure you're aware how they handle such things already to avoid licensing issues. Call it Bunny Ears Hotel, or Rabbit Ears Hotel/Inn.

They are better off calling it Kangeroo or some other animal rather than a bunny. Not changing the mascot would be the culprit. You can't just change the name, you'd have to de-associate all aspects.

For some reason, if it specifically can't be a bunny, the name 'Turtle Shell Motel' comes to mind. It's not uncommon to associate turtles with rabbits, after all.

The two extremes approach huh, lol. The old tortoise and the hare story comes to mind. That bunny place, is that even in a worthy town that would make the game?

It's in Steamboat Springs, which made ads678's concept map and, from what I can tell, is the largest town in north of I-70 in Western Colorado. If it's not marked I'd bet we'll see it as a scenery city.

I believe there was some talk early in this thread about highway 550, whether it would be included or not. Since it is present in New Mexico, I'm pretty confident SCS would continue the rest of its path north to Montrose, where highway 50 takes over to Grand Junction. It is a main highway, and the Million Dollar Highway portion between Ouray and Silverton, along with Glenwood Canyon on I-70, would be the two most iconic stretches for SCS to include, and I'm sure the finished result will be more than impressive. So, here are some landmarks to note for 550:

The Red Mountains at Red Mountain Pass should be represented in some manner. I realize SCS doesn't have actual mountain profiles down yet, so whatever form they end up taking, just make a couple of them red!:

The San Juan Mountains, which are the mountains this road goes through, are dotted with old mining structures. It would be ideal to include 2 or 3:

If either town of Silverton or Ouray are to be included (I think they still could be given the scale, but perhaps not with only 23 miles between them), I'd suggest pasting a few of the parked modified Jeep assets that are included in Moab, Utah. That was a real nice touch, and I see you did your research well! The San Juan Mountains are an off-road paradise as well with a multitude of old mining high roads.

If Ouray is included, the hot springs should be represented. I'm sure SCS would see this and some of these other things on their own in their research.

If SCS is feeling ambitious, they could include the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, like they did with the recent Amtrak addition. It travels between these two towns and would only be visible in and just outside of either. Most of the tracks and the highway are separated by mountains.
