Michigan Compiled Reseach

#1 Post by Gameable17 » 14 Sep 2021 20:09

Opening
Hello Everyone, I am attempting to compile all facts and known information about the Great Lakes State including Signage, License Plates and standards, If I missed something, feel free to contribute

Michigan Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices

Lets start off with one of the most inportant thing to making roads and markings look correct which is the Michigan Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MMUTCD)
it can be found here: https://mdotjboss.state.mi.us/TSSD/getC ... ory=MMUTCD
You can also find the federal version of the manual, in this case the 2009 Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) on that site

Major Roads/Cities/Landmarks Map

I would like to thank @Bedavd for allowing me to post his well made map showing most major highways/cities/landmarks in the great state of Michigan
It can be found here: https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mi ... 803935&z=8
It gives a tiny glimpse into what could be added to American Truck Simulator without adding every city and state highway

Road Signage

Michigan uses a few different route markers, which look like this:

as you can see there are 6 in total, though National Forest markers are quite rare to see unless you live up north/upper peninsula

Here is fantastic resource I found while trying to gain information about truck-line routes in the State of Michigan: http://www.michiganhighways.org/index.html

License Plates

Michigan only requires and issues a front license plate for Semi Trucks, and only requires and issues a rear license plate for vehicles
A semi truck/apportioned plates typically look like this:

As you can see it uses "AB 12345"

A standard plates typically look like this:

Typically they follow this standard: "ABC 1234" but these are sample images, also the Mackinac Bridge plate now uses black text instead of white

@Frontiersman for posting these for skinners and now, research

Closing
I know I missed a ton of different things, but this is just a start, everyone is welcome to share their research and post it here. If you choose to help, I'd like to thank you in advance

Came across this while messing around on the internet today. I hope similar guides are posted for other, more imminent states, but I thought I'd post it here while it was at the front of my mind.

Very detailed map of truck routes and roads across the whole state, as well as some insets for the bigger towns and cities that show the thru routes and the local access. Will definitely come in handy for designing Michigan. I'll see if I can find similar maps for other states.
Check out my Michigan research map!
Check out my ATS IRL map! -> Leave any feedback in my thread!
Kansas added! Up-to-date blog photo locations for upcoming states also included.
