Frame drop when radio turn on
Frame drop when radio turn on
Hi to all. The title is clear.
I have got the steam version updated to 1.7.1.
If radio turn off, the game works great.
When I turn on the radio of ETS2 (straming radio or mp3 files, don't make difference), the fps drop down drastically.
When I played with an old version (1.4.1 if I remember right), this issue does not existing
Some suggest?
PS:
Sorry my bad english

Re: Frame drop when radio turn on
I can't see why you post this in Bugs, but... whatever...
From 1.4.1 to 1.7 there were some improvements. Also, I am not sure, but I think the player functions have been separated from the main engine threads (or something) because they caused it to hang, when the connect requests timed out. Can yo check your CPU usage, when playing a stream?

Hi ohaha,
sorry if I post in wrong section. If you want, I repost in good section. I don't want make chaos
Thanks you for your answer.
Well. If the radio is turned of, CPU usage is 98%-100%, but the frame rate is great. When I turn on, CPU usage is 100%.
Indeed the CPU usage is always high, but the frame drop down only when I turn on the radio.

Re: Frame drop when radio turn on
That's because your CPU is already at its limits. Give it an extra job, like handling an audio stream and it's too much.
What CPU do you have?

Re: Frame drop when radio turn on
I have got:
AMD Atlhon 62 X2 4600+. It work at 2,41 Ghz
2 GB of RAM
ATI 7770 with 1 GB of RAM
Ok, I'am a idiot Maybe I solved the problem. I started the ETS2 in safe mode (default video settings). The CPU usage is the same (98%), but if I turn on the radio, no frame drop.
Strangely, when I updated the game at version 1.7.1, the game works better overall. Maybe the radio player need some extra hz
Now will try other video setting to find the right balance.
If I had to find other problems of the same type, where I have asked support?
Thanks you for your patience

Come back to this topic. At least, we know where to pick it up from.

Re: Frame drop when radio turn on
The problem is almost solved if I lower all the video settings, but I think the main problem is a mix between my hardware and possible further requests after the update.
I think this because if I start the game, with the radio turned off, but in the background using WinAMP, everything works perfectly.
The problem return if I turn on the radio.
I have an idea. The trial version is updated at 1.7.1? I migth try the trial looking for the same problem.

Re: Frame drop when radio turn on
I tried to remove the ETS2 folder in Documents for the game to create a new. --> Same problem
I tried to installa and play ETS2 trial version (i.e. no steam version) --> Same problem
Add new problem. If try to switch on/off radio, sometime the game freeze.
Now, I think the update 1.7.1 need better hardware than past, or something in radio player of 1.7.1 don't work correctly with my hardware configuration (maybe need more resource to work radio/mp3 player ingame).

Re: Frame drop when radio turn on
Possible. Use Winamp, for a while, and we'll see if a future patch makes this better.

Re: Frame drop when radio turn on
I hope in a future update.
For now I can use WinAMP (or other external player) or web radio by the internet browser open in background! XD
Thanks you a lot for your time, and forgive me for my bad english.
PS:
I reported the issue in Steam forum too. Between the anwers, an user report a gain of fps if he turn on the radio Pratically the opposite situation
