The nice thing about BT is that it's open source and licensed under GPL so even if they abandon it (and that's highly doubtful) anyone can create a fork on github and continue developing it. Anyway, this discussion was started by a request to update BT for blender 2.91.2, but the current BT version is compatible with this version of blender. The crash that happens when importing some models is not a bug in BT but a bug in blender. There is one issue with some shaders from game version 1.40 but that can be temporarily fixed by editing shader preset file.

I don't mind sharing but it may not cover all cases, I only added the aux[5] attribute to dif.lum, flare and unlit.vcol.tex shaders. If you have a model imported of created with the original preset file you need to make sure to re-select the shader preset for each material with aforementioned shared, so that the new attribute is added. Otherwise you will get errors when exporting.

Regarding crashes.. I switched to Blenders LTS (Long term support) release, these are currently at 2.83 and focus purely on bug fixes and ensuring stability. Since I started using LTS I've not had a single crash.

So if you want something that doesn't crash.. that may be an option for you.
