SCS lighting doesn't work on some parts

#1 Post by abasstreppas » 19 Oct 2020 17:07

Sometimes the SCS lighting stops working in latest BT and I can't get it back to normal functioning again. Tried to restart and reload the nice.sii, all just in vain

Is there anything else that could affect the SCS lightting?

Hmm, it works on some parts but not on others in the same object. What am I missing?

Hey, maybe you could post your blend file with the issue? You can separate the problematic object if you don't want to share the whole project.

@Harven I got it working. I had to reload/re-select the shader for that part to get it working again ;)

When I have your attention: I'm a newbie when it comes to the use of weighted normals, any basic thoughts? Do I use both modifier and shader with weight flavour? Is weighted normals a good thing on most meshes, or just those which uses normal maps?

dont know if it helps but i had problems with the fog light covers with washer integrated, they always looked like garbage with everything i tired, now i used the weighted normals modifier and the results are like i wanted them

so i think it is really dependent on the model how to use it, the whole NG Scania is one custom normal mesh

I'm doing some experimental stuff with weighted shaders and most things tend to look much better. I don't know if it's the new Blender version, but things that I thought looked good earlier seems to need weighted normals now

this was the case before 2.8, i used 50ks weighted normals addon for it because blender was garbage in that regards, it srsly helped to make low poly geometry look more smooth in regards to reflections, this is the case here also, like on my example image

the shader itself, i dont think it does anything to the geometry but tries to smooth out the texture ? it is mostly used on chrome parts from what i saw

I'm adding it to the Alcoa rims and the result makes the finish look better

Good tool for messing with normals :D

about the shader, no idea what that does, question is how demanding for rendering it is

that is what the weighted normal modifier basically does in blender 2.8
