Sweden Right of Way Bug [NOT A BUG]

#1 Post by Joske » 15 Sep 2015 21:59

Hi.

Not sure if this has been reported. I have trawled through the forum and could not find this specific bug being reported.

The Right of way signs in Sweden are all after the junctions and not before. I have not yet come across a correctly sign posted 'Right of Way' sign in Sweden on the smaller A roads. It appears to be throughout Sweden only.

This is the sign for Right of Way....

This sign should be before any junction. In Sweden it always comes after.

I have attached images and co-ords of some examples but Sweden is littered with this bug.

Whackypedia's Road Signs In Sweden page says that is a Priority Road sign. And a similar one with a black stripe running from the top right to the bottom left is the End of Priority Road sign. And I think as such, they are properly placed. Of course, I don't call it Whackypedia for nothing, so it could be wrong...

By the way, if you press "Report" when you have that Coordinates Screen open, it will write them to a file named bugs.txt. Then you can just copy the text instead of posting an image.

They're place at the right place in the game. In reality the sign is placed before the crossing on rare occations and sometimes they appear first more than 50 meters after the crossing. The right of way is canceled when turning into a cross road (if not a right of way sign with a black arrow below, pointing in that direction, is place before the crossing) ;)

I have driven through France, Belgium, Holland, Poland and Germany (in reality not just ETS2) and the signs have always been placed before the crossing or junction to let the driver know if they have right of way or not.

Putting the sign after the junction is plane stupidity. I have never been to Sweden but the norm is to have the sign before the junction. Also any other intersecting junction should have the same sign but with a black line through it as Axel pointed out and not a standard Give Way sign as I have seen throughout ETS2.

I am going to go and check google street maps in Sweden to see if you are correct. unless the Swedish have gone bonkers. :D
Thanks for your prompt replies.

Yep it's right. The priority sign comes after the junction however I did notice that each one had a speed limit above or below it. That's the only difference.

Perhaps SCS need to look at making that change. But this is not a bug. The Swedish like to know they have priority after they pass the junction. Bonkers.

We actually have a very good memory and we always have the previous sign in mind :P

I would love to see signs like that in your last picture (tip, try to use an external picture host instead of using the forums attachment except for plain bug reports ;) )

Actually, the Netherlands uses both:
- In built-up areas, these signs are used BEFORE a crossing. Example
- Outside built-up areas, they are placed AFTER a crossing (and these signs will also forbid parking too): Example
This distinct difference was even part of my driving education.

Outside built-up areas, I've always seen them placed after the intersection, quite often combined with a route number shield. Take a look around; from all the countries you mentioned, I couldn't find a counter-example in Poland; I was able to find one in all the other countries your mentioned:

It's more commonplace than you think...

Like I said, I call Wikipedia "Whackypedia" for what I think are obvious reasons at times. But in this case they seem to be right. Every other website (individual government websites, etc.) that I've been to for the purpose of looking up European and Scandinavian road signs all say the same thing. Those are priority road signs throughout Europe. Here's a Comparison page they set up for Europe. Also, multiple signs on one post are more cost efficient. You'll see that just about anywhere you go.

While priority signs after a crossing bear the risk of being obstructed or badly visible from before the crossing, they may serve another purpose: To tell traffic that turns in from the crossing or joining road that they are now on a priority road. The (presumably repeated) speed sign and road number sign would fit this theory. But it's just an idea, I'm speculating here.
