Massive Understeer With Default DAF XF105

#1 Post by Splop10 » 01 Sep 2015 19:09

Right up until version 1.19 I had no problems at all with understeer in any of the trucks (apart from taking a corner too fast obviously) however since 1.20 the default DAF XF has become almost uncontrollable. I simply cannot accelerate while turning, because it just carries straight on, almost as if the thing is aquaplaning. At first I thought was a new rain physic they had introduced, but it happens all the time, in any weather, at any speed and at any corner.

If it's any help, I was doing a quick job, hauling a 25 ton load.

I am having the same problem with my DAF XF, I can't even maneuver to park my trailer as any press of the accelerator pedal causes the steering to effectively stop working. I only have this problem while a trailer is attached but it happens at all speeds, forward and reverse.

I have the same problem. Also with the MAN-truck. I'm using a keyboard and when I accelerate I can't turn left or right.

It's been that way since 1.17, I was hoping it would be fixed by now!!

I have no problem with the steering, although I use a DFGT.

The problem, from what I've read on the Steam forums, seems to be caused by the fifth wheel location on some trucks with a 6x configuration. The fifth wheel being too far back and away from the middle axle is preventing the weight to be properly distributed on the truck chassis, thus causing the truck to lift up towards the front and losing grip on the steer tires.

If that's the case then the MAN TGX 6x4 will never be fixed!! That's not right!! :x
and btw, I have this problem with 19 ton trailers, most corners the truck has a tendency to go straight on, and I don't think this has anything to do with my G27 wheel.

Still have this problem with Scania 6x4 as well. I will try to move some weight on the front axle, waiting for an official fix.

The real question i ask myself is, why hasn't anyone tried moving the 5th wheel on the (most) affected trucks?
I know it requires Blender and all that but at least someone should give it a try?

I haven't had any issues with this myself since i don't drive the affected trucks, hence i haven't seen a reason to bother with it.
If SCS hasn't fixed it by the time i want to drive the affected trucks i would most likely do that (move the 5th wheel) myself.

I drive conventional cab trucks (Peterbilt, Kenworth T800, etc) and this anomaly is present in those trucks too but only in the really heavy trailers.
That said, I've noticed since 1.20 patch (or maybe earlier, but I wasn't dragging heavy trailers at that point) the steer axle slides when on gravel/dirt.
Increasing the steer axle weight to 9400.0 and changing the steer wheels to "powered" has lessened the 'sliding'.
Two wrongs don't make a right, but three lefts.. do.
