[Guide] How to change MOD folder location

While we understand that not all paid mods use the Intellectual Property of other companies/people, it is very hard to moderate what is and isn't acceptable when money is involved. There are also concerns that it could look unfavorable to potential work partners going forward if SCS allow mods that may potentially use unlicensed branding.

[Guide] How to change MOD folder location

#1 Post by pastuh » 05 Sep 2015 15:14

If you don't have a lot of space in C: disk and can't install bigger size mods... Don't worry!

You can easy change MOD folder location.

1: Download and Install:
http://schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinkshel ... llext.html

2: Go to your ETS2 settings folder: X:\Users\XXXXX\Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2

3: Right click on MOD folder and choose: Pick Link Source

4: Go to other location where you want hold your mod files. Example E: disk

5: Right click on empty space and choose: Drop As... -> Junction

Not the best way..
Steam -> Euro Truck Simulator 2 (right click) -> Select run options and put this:

Code: Select all

-homedir "D:/ETS2Mody"
where location is after -homedir flag.

Yes you can. If you launch the game with different -homedir parameters. One shortcut for every profile.

There are of course other ways this can be accomplished but that's the most straight forward one.
Note that your profiles will be stored in each separate homedir too. Hence no risk of using the wrong profile.

Thanks. I'm gonna try with this:

"D:\Juegos\Steam\SteamApps\common\Euro Truck Simulator 2\bin\win_x64\eurotrucks2.exe" -homedir E:\Juegos

Creating an access from Steam not work for me.
So I had to do it from the .EXE

Thanks for the help Cadde!

Hi,
I'm playing ETS2 on Kubuntu 16.04 and I know the default mod folder location in linux is ~/.local/share/Euro Truck Simulator 2/mod. But for disk space saving I want to use my Windows mod folder location. I moved it from drive C to D, so I can use it from linux (it cannot mount my C drive because Windows 10 is not switching off but is in sleep/hybernate mode or something, so I had to move the mod folder to another location). Now, my question is, how can I use the windows mod folder from linux? Will those instructions work from linux too (I mean changing from Steam options) or I must do something else?

As long as the path is accessible on the user you are playing the game on, it should work.

With Linux the "-homedir" command does not work.
The game continues to recreate the "Euro Truck Simulator 2" folder in .local/share
Solutions?
I write in very bad English ... Sorry!

Can you please explain a little more detailed?

Yes, you can change this in your Steam startup options, but it also means that your profile information will be on the target disk. If your C: drive is an SSD disk, and your target disk is a HDD disk, it means that your automatic recordings will be made to your HDD disk. In this case, you may experience short freezes in the game during automatic recordings.
I am using Link Shell Extension to solve this problem.
I added my target disk and folder to the Steam launch options.
And I have created a link to the C: drive "Link Shell Extension" for the profile folder in this folder. Now my automatic recordings are being made to my C: drive (SSD). So I prevented instant freezes.
This information might be useful to someone.
