[Guide] How to extract base.scs and def.scs - Efficiently

While we understand that not all paid mods use the Intellectual Property of other companies/people, it is very hard to moderate what is and isn't acceptable when money is involved. There are also concerns that it could look unfavorable to potential work partners going forward if SCS allow mods that may potentially use unlicensed branding.

You waited for the end of extracting and disappearance of the black window?

I downloaded this extractor onto my Mac and it will not run. I get an error telling me this is a Windows executable and the file is corrupt.

So how do mac users extract the contents of these files?

They use a Windows emulator or likewise.
That, or you can write your own extractor for Mac. All the details you need (minus programming stuff) are on these forums.

Oh I see. I am not able to install an emulator. Darn. I hoped there was another way. I don't see myself writing a program to do this.

I assume that using an unzipping program (I have winzip for Mac) would not be able to be made to work? I tried but it tells me it's part of a larger archive. I wondered if there was some steps I could take that would overcome that problem.

No, the base.scs and def.scs along with all the dlc.scs's are encrypted and require the official extraction tool to extract them correctly.

That's incorrect Reef. You can extract them manually with something capable of working with deflate compression.
The difference between an SCS# file and a Zip file is in the header and the header only.

Which brings me to the old and true method of using QuickBMS. The problem with that is you don't get any filenames. You get the CITYHASH sums as filenames instead.
Either way, any windows capable machine can extract the archives. You could technically use any device to run a windows environment. Even a smartphone.

I would say, if it really bothers you, get a RasperryPI and install windows on that. RasperryPI's cost something like $20 to $40 depending on which model you go for. And they are quite capable devices, you can use them for a lot of things.

Ok maybe i should have said "to the layman" i.e. non computer coding God (like Cadde) you will require the SCS extractor.. That better?
