SCS as a company do not wish to have paid mods on this forum. While we understand that not all paid mods use the Intellectual Property of other companies/people, it is very hard to moderate what is and isn't acceptable when money is involved. There are also concerns that it could look unfavorable to potential work partners going forward if SCS allow mods that may potentially use unlicensed branding.

well sort of a guide...so I hope it fits the category ...
explained ALL over the forum in various threads by many others including me.... (I'm not the best teacher)


Basic knowledge - use of the NEW paintjobsystem (not that new ...but you get it...) AND additional to this
( requested by a few...in PM and other channels here and there )
HOW DO you skin Kast's Tandem ADDON :?: :?: :?:

HERE WE GO
\base\def\vehicle\truck\scania.r_2016\accessory\f_wnd_frame this is the folder we're looking at
inside this folder there are 2 .sii files ; painted.sii AND stock.sii as seen, only one available for your skin is the painted.sii

so as you already should (hopefully) know the def\vehicle\truck\scania.r_2016\paint_job\accessory\**yourskin.sii**

have some filepaths to your textures with their acc_lists ...which with the example above should look like

This method above is what you do with every mod you have;
trucks/trailers/accessories and wish to add to your skinfile.sii to give it a proper look

if NOT you might end up with something like this.... oh, to familiar :lol: and if your skin have these minor issues, you have missed some stuff from the accessoryfolders...
you need some more acc_list items ...now go search for them :!: :!: :geek:

MISSING ACC_LIST PREVIEWIMAGES
those familiar screens...when everything is NOT OK :roll:
using the Kaarfor skin from Hounddogs excellent skinpackage for SCS Trucks as example - when using additional mods with new acc_list items

the main skin is showing up on the fenders, sunshield and the sideskirts :oops:

go through the accessoryfolder and every subdirectory and see what is needed for the actual skin, some parts you just don't need to add .... those "painted" parts is obviously good to get... ;)

With ALL this explained above... how do you skin the tandem stuff by Kast :?:
Well nothing magical about that either , if you checked ALL stuff above and do the same with Kast's tandem addon you can Do It :!: :!:
The tandem addon works for many truckmods (well those that requires his mod obviously, but they have the same stuff (acc_list) most of the time
just check the accessoryfolder for new stuff...add those lines to your skinfile.sii ... and you're ready to go :!:

lots of stuff to upgrade for the skins ... namechanges for boxes, additional new names for various accessories... but I see the setup is to make things easier to update in the future :D

Haven't done much more than edited the boxes in my first origin skinpackage... (still much more to do - rails, sideskirts and more new names = new acc_list)
What I've done is to first check the boxes - which names, what acc_list they belong to...what template ..well most of them use the same template even if there's a lot of them...it's up to you how to use them...
:P

Not sure how You do with stuff, but I want to be organized to easily upgrade stuff OR just make some new.....
If anyone is interested in this ... It's used for any truck that are using Kast's addon no matter what truck ...they still use the same boxes ( might be wrong - happened before ) :lol:
same acc_list = same template could be used ... however there are some small differences... depending on what type of skin you're making...really advanced could have some issues between the boxes as they have the same acc_list ;)

as I only have checked the boxes I had since previous releases, I haven't checked the new boxes...
I did noticed a few things about the Narko .... height between the non-closed AND closed 4m/4.4m was a bit different AND a (possibly) missing template for narko_box_4_4_closed_c.png

As you see, Kast's Tandem Addon ( awesome work...if there was an Award Ceremony for modding it would be a grandslam 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆 ) are a real challenge to skin
( if you're like me and want ALL to work that is ) :lol:
You can play it safe and do as many others and just play with one combination (trust me, I've thought about it many times)
or just replace textures, but that's cheating and if the skin is shared, could upset people who doesn't know how it works...modconflicts and other issues :lol:

I think I covered it ALL ...I can't do (even if I wanted to) this for everyone/anyone that ask me to because it's hard to understand :oops:
YOU learn by trying, one time - maybe gives you headache, 2nd time - you might get the hang of it...

Just take it slow&easy ...not rushing ...check filepaths, one, two, as many times you need - just to have everything correct .... :geek: :ugeek:
start with ONE of the boxes... there are as mentioned a lot of templates to use and even me
( yeah it's true, still have issues doing stuff ) hates it from time to time, then takes a normal truck for a while and plays the game, thinking about how to approach it the next time....if there will be one.... ;)

Yeah, whatabout them... well same way...check the files ...
:D even more work with these ones...
are there MORE trailers coming :?: :?: :roll: ... a part of me hopes NOT, but others says YES - Great WORK Kast !!!! :lol:

Truth is, that almost every trailer made by Kast I have made available ( well a few left )
for even easier skinning ..just tick boxes for parts and stuff...and then add textures and finally a few-steps-later
EXPORT it to a READY-TO-PLAY-MOD :o :shock:

SHORT TUTORIAL HOW-TO ADD RIGID CAPABILITIES TO EXISTING TRUCKSKINS
(decided to do a custom truckskin of my own, spotted a livery I liked, but giving it a slightly different look than the original ones)
Original truckskin can be seen on http://gavlefjarr.se/ ( those darn lines I can't create on my own.... have never used/learnt Illustrator so NOT sure how to....but it's a game, close-enough=good-enough ) :D

just to get a headstart of it, made a custom truckskin for the non-rigid trucks ( small changes will be made to the skin - such as lines/graphics extended over to sideskirt, and maybe onto the boxes - just testing now... )
Skin itself made with the templates for the Scania 2016 R/S ( ...obtained from threads mentioned in the previous post above )

Textures I use are:
  • the main truckskin (what you see obviously) gff_0.tobj
  • black texture (front mirror,side mirror, front grillparts, sunshield) acc_1.tobj

So if you just pick the rigid options ( or any other accessorymod for normal trucks - sideskirts, sunshields, mirrors... ) in the game with that truckskin made with the default acc_list lines - like the one above you will get some errors...
errors - which is because of the missing acc_list lines inside your mod for that particular accessory... ( how-to find the names is explained in previous post )
OK, back to the example now - choosing the Rigid options without adding these lines it will probably be looking like this.... main skin will pop-up on various accessories...like the sideskirts, box obviously :P

What you need to do is to add the above mentioned [RIGID ACC_LIST STUFF] to your skin AND ofcourse textures to the parts you wish to have your custom touch ON. 8-)

SO, adding those additional rigidlines to the skin and assign textures to the boxes...and the other stuff...
Yellow for ALL the boxes, side/chassiboxes to start with so you see the results...
Added a new texture to the fenders ( black with a white line outside ) ( for this example, I put a filepath to existing ones in another skinmod ...yes, I'm lazy ) :lol:
I could have used the black one I already had ;) ...at the same time, re-located a couple of acc_list lines to another texture than the rest.
I also did some rework on the cabingraphics...stretching the lines onto the sidespoiler ( still w.i.p )

Hi @m1keY ,

Great guide, helped me tremendous. I managed to skin the tandem addon.
One thing I don't understand though, I have skinned the box, fenders and sideskirts but now i'm trying to skin the sideskirt-RAIL.
But how do I do this? they aren't listed on the acclist[] on kast his tandem topic.

EDIT: I tried also skinning those domar fenders but couldn't find them in the acclist[] so I changed their color directly in kast his modfolder, but that doesn't feel right

@beaubeire some things/notes need to be updated in this tutorial ...will check it out a.s.a.p
(was made withe the Scania 2016 as base...so might be some missing things for the RS)

sideskirts are the parts located in the folder rigid_f_l & rigid_f_r and all of those options are simply named

an explanation of what I want to start skinning:
I have Eugene's Scania latest version so I want to make a tandem addon skin for the Eugene scania.
I would like to make a skin for the Ekeri and NTM FRC tandems.
I only have a program called BEM's Easy Modding. For the rest I don't have any programs yet.

well you do need to use a couple of other tools to make your skins...
B.E.M - viewtopic.php?f=34&t=269018 - is a tool like ModsStudio2 - viewtopic.php?f=123&t=274650 to compile and look at certain files....

to make your skin you use the templates provided in various threads... such as Kast's tandem addon, Eugene's reworked scania and so on ...

template for all trucks can be found in this forum aswell...

these templates above are used in this -
photo editing softwares:

paint.net - https://www.getpaint.net/ (freeware)
gimp - https://www.gimp.org/ (freeware)
photoshop - https://www.adobe.com/se/products/photoshop.html (free to try....)

file editing software:

notepad++ - https://notepad-plus-plus.org/ - the one to open files such as .sii and more ...
if never opened this file before..rightclick file choose open with ..and browse to the .exe for the software...

this goes for .scs files aswell (which basically is a .zip file) ...open with ... pick your unpacking/packing software winrar/winzip/7zip .... (to download any, google it) ;)

sure there's plenty more to pick from, but this is probably the one used the most here...I could be wrong... :P

with these software's and templates you are good to go...
download some mods and check how they are made and you get the basic knowledge out of it

anything else can be found on this forum and discord channels.... feel free to ask for help... :)

those mods I haven't got, but you can get those acc_list names by simply following the steps in the

ACCESSORIES AND HOW-TO GET THEM = ACC_LIST section
and give these accessories a basetexture from that main skin (silver/grey/metallic look)
you probably have one for it in that skinmod itself...just use the same filepath for these accessories

probably for that frontlip aswell and the rear fenders as it looks like the mainskin is put onto them aswell...
