There is the rumor that SCS is working on upgrading the engine. Whether it is true or not for being anytime soon, it will happen eventually. Going from DirectX9 to DirectX11 would be a big jump. Issues will happen left and right I am sure that will take time to solve. Will they simply just absorb the hit without trying to get compensation and just keep trucking. Or will they let the prices remain stable and constant until the move to DX11 takes place. Most of us probably have pc's that can run their game on DX11 but I am sure there are some that don't have that luxury still. That is the balance SCS is fighting. Do they make it playable for the vast majority. Or do they move forward. They can't stay behind forever so moving forward will come one day with a new game engine. Will the title still be ATS/ET2 or will it be ATS2/ET3.
Can you all imagine the direction SCS can go in with more capabilities. Weather conditions would be a good one to upgrade. I am sure physics would get a bump as well. 2017 has been a great year for adding several things here and there. It's only going to get better and more in depth as new ideas get flung around. It's possible that dlc content can be created easier and faster as well. While ATS is relatively small in term of current sq miles covered, moving content over to DX11 will be much easier than moving over half the U.S. map. I haven't been one pushing for DX11 but many have. It's just something that can't be ignored forever. Me, I am just along for the ride.
I hate to burst your bubble, but SCS has said they'd upgrade to a universal API (originally thought to be AMD's Mantle, later Vulkan) as it would be easier to distribute and convert to other platforms, not to mention a bit more future proof.
What's more annoying is they've fixed stuff in ATS (like vehicle wheels not turning in mirrors) but not applied the same to ETS2.
ATS (8 drivers, 7 trucks, 4 garages) & ETS2 (86 drivers, 90 trucks, 96 garages).
