Hotel California?

Yeah, the California Hotel is actually located in Oakland, right of the I-5. It's pretty much the only accurate thing about the Oakland-Berkeley area right now.

I think the song is about the Hollywood/California/Rock star life, and how difficult it can be to escape it (especially fame - You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave).

Paramore had a similar theme in one of their songs in their new album. It was either Idle Worship or No Friend.

I have seen something about that one time. I don't know much about the whole Bates Motel situation such as where it originates or what it actually is entirely, but I have heard about it and seen something about the in-game reference...
That is actually kinda why I posted this thread...
I know SCS likes to include little reference details in their games, and recognized "Hotel California" immediately!
After hearing about the Bates Motel reference, and I think I may have seen (most likely just getting myself confused here...) a reference to one of the Fallout games as well, I wanted to post this to see if there is any confirmation of Hotel California as a reference to the Eagles song, or just a coincidence...
At least I am not the only one to think so. I did not know there was a "California Hotel" in Oakland though... Odd, if there is a major landmark directly on an Interstate, I usually know it...

Yes, they do...

That record explores the underbelly of success, the darker side of Paradise. Which was sort of what we were experiencing in Los Angeles at that time. So that just sort of became a metaphor for the whole world and for everything you know. And we just decided to make it Hotel California. So with a microcosm of everything else going on around us.

He supposedly said that in the late 1970's before the band broke up. They've also said that the hotel on the album cover is the Beverly Hills Hotel, in Beverly Hills, California. In other words, Los Angeles... (Sorry, I can't find a quote for that...) And I do believe that this California Hotel is a reference to Hotel California.

The Oakland California Hotel opened in 1930 and the song was released in 1977.
