$11.99 is too much for 1 state.
Re: $11.99 is too much.
No it isn't too much. NM is the fifth largest state too, later states could be bundled together or charged at a lower cost. I think it's very reasonable, possibly even too low, given the quality inside and when you think of the number of people it's got to support. Remember - SCS is now entirely dependent on DLC sales, since I for one don't see a new game anytime soon (unless ECS one day emerges... dare I say it). Of course I understand some people don't like that, but personally I have no problems with it and I think £8.99 in my region is an incredibly fair price for what's inside and how long I'll be getting enjoyment from it (years into the future).
Re: $11.99 is too much.
How fast did you smoke cigarettes for 11,99€ and how long did you enjoy New Mexico?
I think it should be clear to everyone that New Mexico has the better value for money instead of cigarettes.

Just an hour's work, then you have earned New Mexico and a few cigarettes extra. Certainly a fair price !

I thought I was a Dutch cheapskate, but looks like OP is even cheaper than me!

It’s a bargain at that price.

Re: $11.99 is too much.
I was waiting for this thread, honestly. $11.99 is lunch for one day, and this I definitely have, since we had two days off this week
Remember, prices are based on how much effort is put into them, and for New Mexico, a ton of work was put into this dlc. Remember, with some other popular simulators you could have thousands of dollars in dlc for things with 1 item. Would you rather a $20.00 dlc for the mobile crash barrier trailer, and just that nothing else, or $12 for a map expansion, and having tons of fixes, new features, two new trailers, and much needed optimization for free?
And also, if $12 is really too much for you, remember steam bundles exist.

Re: $11.99 is too much.
$11.99 is nothing, i spend a little more than that on a medium pizza with some wings. Its a very fair price for the 5th largest state in the US and we get 14 new cities to drive to.
The base map of ATS is almost the same size as ETS2 base map believe it or not and plus we got Arizona and the rescaled map for free. With the extra money SCS makes from the NM DLC might help them push out future state dlcs faster. SCS is not forcing everyone to buy the DLC if you dont want it

Re: $11.99 is too much.
Why can't they, exactly?
Many things in life are balanced around the idea that the base product is cheaper while some related product is more expensive. This is also known as the razor and blades model. Releasing a game at a price that's far cheaper than what it warrants -- perhaps three states for the price of 1-2 -- and then pricing the DLC appropriately, might be considered a loose interpretation of that model.
This would keep costs low for players who do not intend to buy DLC. Even for those that do, however, consider: there does exist that delightful bundle mentioned above.

Re: $11.99 is too much.
I just want to point out that ATS was meant to be released containing California only - for $19.99. It was only released with Nevada in bundle as SCS wanted to add more content to please their loyal fans (and due to lack of trucks I guess ) and then they went a step further to add Arizona to the freebie bundle, because they care about their fans. And now when they finally release their first paid map DLC you complain about a silly $11.99? Look at it that way - you bought the game, you got 2 map DLC's for free (Nevada + Arizona) and now you get NM for $11.99. So technically you got each of the 3 map DLCs for an average price of $4. That's even below your goal of $5.99
And yeah, of course you'll get lots of hate, cause it's well deserved...
The smallest details always make the biggest difference.
