Steepness of grades - question

#1 Post by Jonathan Rabbitt » 19 Nov 2017 03:42

Are the steepness of grades for the purposes of calculating motive power requirements (or run-away on down hill) calculated from the topography geometry, or is there a coefficient associated with each given length of road? Sometimes I get the impression that I'm grinding up a gradient that doesn't appear visually, and other times, I get the impression from what I see, that the truck should be running away without using the jake, but it doesn't. Is there some covert mathematical trickery going on?

Hmm interesting...

IRL, there are grades you don't really notice visually at all, because they are so shallow, and yet you'll begin slowing because it keeps going and going.

I had exact same feeling when driving around Cali today. Does not happen with ETS2.
