@flight50 Considering that SCS counts divided highways twice, my Texas map already has 12000-13000 miles. I hope there will be more roads, but I'm still pessimistic about it, so this is what I expect. I might be wrong of course.

Yeah I have no idea how SCS calculates the lane miles. I can be wrong as well but I think Texas needs to illustrate a super high amount of roads that should be 2-3 times more than recent dlc's. Not just because the state is huge, but the 6 largest cities alone could have quite a bit of roads thru and around them. Each city should have surface streets to depots. How dense will they all be, no telling but if SCS exaggerated the city boundaries just a tad and spread things out, we could get a very nice road system in Texas. Again, just because I am saying this, doesn't mean it will happen so I'm not trying to create hype here.

When SCS states how many miles of road are in a DLC, are they actually using lane miles, or are they simply using road miles? For example, if there is a 50 mile stretch of a four lane, non-divided road, is SCS counting that as 50 miles of road or 200 miles of road?

supersobes, that I do not know.
If 2+2 lanes, with a divider. Then my bet could have gone for either 100miles or 200miles.

With that in mind, Texas should definitely see 10k+ then. I-10, I-20, I-27, I-30, I-35 with E & W, I-40, I-44, I-45, 410, 635, 610, 820......those alone are a min of 4 lanes. Get into the cities and they go to 6-10 perhaps. Then there is a slew of US roads that are 2-8 lanes like U-75. I say 10k min but 12k+ wouldn't surprise me. So yeah it will be interesting to compare what ads has to SCS.

I wouldn't be surprised if SCS doesn't include some of the three digit Interstates around some of the metropolitan areas. SCS didn't add I-270 or I-225 around Denver, and I-205 around the Portland/Vancouver metropolis was significantly cut short in the Oregon and Washington DLCs. I'm thinking some of the ones in Texas such as I-635 and I-820 may fall to the same fate.

Of course you could be right. But you could also be wrong. I'll give you a few reason why loops in Texas will come or at least have much better chances than anything previously built.

1) they are all ring roads around the big city 360 deg. Not ovals and not really partials. Even 635 can have other roads to make it a loop
2) SCS can absorb more smaller suburbs in Texas much better to give space for ring roads. Texas has space to exaggerate the ring roads.
3) 820, 410, 635 and 610 are all classified as Interstates. they are not toll roads that can be omitted. Interstates are priority number one
4) imo the largest US cities with complete ring roads should have their ring roads in ATS under 2 conditions 1- there is space to stretch out and 2 - suburbs for that city can be absorbed without conflicting with the next largest city. Example: DFW, San Antonio, Houston, Atlanta, Charlotte, St. Louis, Kansas City, Minneapolis, DC, Baltimore, Cincinnati and Jacksonville. They all have space to spread out around the city and absorb because there are no larger cities within miles.
5) Texas's road system could mean a ton to ATS so missing those 4 would hurt more than it helps imo. 360 deg ring roads are as much of a landmark as high profile interchanges. Ft. Worth by default gets 820 because of how it ties in with Dallas and the mid cities. If Ft. Worth was off by itself, 820 doesn't come perhaps because the population may not demand it.
6) easy way to add lots of depots is around the ring roads......because there is lots of space beyond the ring roads. Ramps and surface streets are easier to spread out along a ring road

Imho, DFW, San Antonio and Houston all have massive amounts of space around them as those 4 are inland and unlike the cities in the game in the West, there are no oceans, rivers, mountains, valleys or anything preventing ring roads for inland cities. There is just simply more space in Texas than any other place on the map. Once SCS pushes East, those cities I listed above, their ring roads will be major connections to other cities as things just get more compact out East. In the long run, out East, ring roads could save space as they eat up space at the same time to give us more city. Cities are becoming iconic landmarks in ATS and people want to see these huge cities. We can't go thru them but going around them is a treat and well worth the trouble the devs would have to go thru to get them in. Cities can help sell states along with their road network imo.

I checked it some time ago with Oregon and Utah. SCS counts interstates and other divided highways twice, other roads once. If you count all the roads only once, then Oregon will have 3200-3500 and Utah 2200-2500 miles (don't remember exact numbers). Also divide it by 20 and you get real mileage (Oregon ~170 mi, Utah ~120 mi).

Atlanta GA, full ring road, due to trucking rules.
Fort Worth and Dallas? I would bet for a combined ring road. In one shape or other.
Ring roads are usually space hogs. So I think that SCS did a good choice in Colorado.

Houston, yes, space, but that space could easily make the distance to Beaumont very short.
Same for and especially Galveston.
San Antonio? Austin quite close.

If Nampa/Boise and CDA/Spokane can fit, I am not concerned about San Antonio/Austin (79.7 miles apart), Odessa/Midland (20.1), Dallas/Ft.Worth (32.4 miles apart) and Houston/Beaumont (84.9miles apart). Midland/Odessa will be like Nampa/Boise. They are small and don't need a ton of space. SCS can also cheat them and spread them. DFW, the largest inland area if all of the US but I think SCS can do justice and separate them both. San Antonio/Austin - Houston/Beaumont, They are too far apart to worry about. The ring road will fit. I am sure at this point, SCS has figured it all out if they started preliminary early last year. The hardest part is figuring out what will fit. Once they know what they can get in, its all about detailing and polishing up the map.

Worst case, SCS provides large portions of the right roads. Perhaps 3/4 or 1/2 anything less than 1/2 and its not even worth putting in the game imo.
