Trucker_71 wrote: 18 Mar 2020 18:10 The chirp is very prominent in the SCS 389 for 1.36.
That's because that particular sound was a slightly edited copy from one of the ETS2 DAF trucks (MX-13 Euro 6) the euro trucks actually do make that chirp sound when their transmission shifts.
It was a total turn-off for me even though I love the 389 I couldn't bear to drive it. The Kenworth 900 had a chirp also but barely audible so I used it mostly.
If SCS is going to make an American truck sim, they need to leave the European stuff out of it.
Also, what's up with the 3 strips running along the roofs of the trailers? Is that a European thing too? American trailers don't have anything on the roof, they're just plain & flat.

Yeah I've got this problem now, with one of the recent updates. I can't split 2nd or 6th at all, but splitter works fine on other gears. Sometimes I seem to hit 6th instead of 2nd even when I'm in low range. G29 shifter with TA megashifter.
Just to clear this up I had a broken wire on the range switch was going open in the 2/6 gear position and interfering with splitting those gears. No problem with the game.

@Trucker_71

I felt similar, I purchased the game on release but quickly stopped playing due to the base sounds, I came back more than a year later because of the sound fixes pack and Kriechbaum's engine pack.

Do I have to turn on any setting on my Win 10 system to benefit from FMOD? The cab sounds really, really quiet,I barely hear the engine when the windows are up. Are Volvos that insulated?

@DLM3 - I would suggest experimenting with the sound sliders as a first step; here is how I set mine (everything below trailer is at the same mid-level)

Some of the stock SCS sounds are also not balanced optimally yet; there are several mods out there if you want to hear the difference in balance level settings.

@Robinicus Thanks, I'll give these settings a try as they are all at 50%. I wasn't sure what would be realistic levels.

I have some feedback @Max if you'd like to pass it on the developers:

The beta is definitely improving over the last few updates. I really like that train car cargo sounds are now possible in game, and I like the reverb effect in tunnels and under bridges.
I think the effect in tunnels should be a little more noticeable when inside the truck rather than just the external camera views.

Thank you also to the developers for adding the ambient sounds back.

AI traffic sounds now have more possibilities (e.g. idle sounds) which I really like. However I am wondering if it's possible to adjust the size or range for the full volume of the sound (like sound_min_dist effect for movers in 1.36) when the vehicle is close by.
Right now the full volume range seems very small and I think it should extend a meter or so, although the overall maximum range is more realistic now which I like.

As echoed by other sound modders, I think there should be a way for letting us use different sound files for exterior and interior for the same "effect" of sound.
For example, rain sounds should have a different sound (like in 1.36) in the interior view because the raindrops will make a noise when it hits the windshield.
At the moment there's only one sound file for rain which is optimized for the exterior view only. Basically, some sounds should be different based on whether you're in the interior view or exterior view.

Agree with the rain sound. In interior raindrops sounds like splashing on the tarmac, not on a metal of the cabin.

@Drive Safely I agree with this wider hearing radius. I want to hear traffic AI car sound in more wider range. Currently, it seems I can only hear the sound of no more than two cars. On the other hand, I can hear railroad bell or helicopter sound from quite far away. Though it seems they lack proper echo effect to make them sound from far away.

This only matters when we have proper effect for distant sound but I think it's good idea to change hearing radius dynamically depending on how loud the noise around you to emulate real life dynamic range of sound volume. So when you are running at full speed, hearing range gets smaller but when you park the truck in quiet place, hearing range gets much wider and you hear distant small traffic sound.
