Base Map Rebuild (CA, NV, AZ) General Discussion Thread
Re: Base Map Rebuild (CA, NV, AZ) General Discussion Thread
A little comparison here.
By population:
Denver is the 19th largest city in the US. SCS did a great job there. I see it as a spotlight like Seattle and Portland.
El Paso is 23rd
Ft. Worth is 13th
Austin is 11th
Dallas is 9th
San Antonio is 7th
Houston is 4th
LA is 2nd
I use Texas as an example because it has more cities in the top 25 than any other state. Both California and Texas both have 3 each in the top 10. I call the top 10, mega cities. Add in their metroplex areas and they are even larger. Texas is coming as one dlc so that means all of it come. Its also the latest and greatest. This is why I say use Texas as a model for cities moving forward. This is why I mention, solve Texas and the rest of the US has a template to know what can fit with a serious road network and urban development around it all.
I like the fact that the base map is phased as I hope it stays that way. Not rushed and the more that comes per dlc, the rebuilds can take advantage and implement things that are not locked to dlc's. So not only should California, Nevada or Arizona benefit from every state after them, but if it takes 3+ years to complete them, that means that Texas, Montana, Oklahoma, Kansas, Louisiana....whatever is w.i.p while the base maps are w.i.p., they can get upgrades based on the current ATS library.

Just drove through ABQ in NM and it felt huge and massive; LA should have that feel too since it's the second largest city in the US (at the moment it feels like a small town).

Yeah Texas and California do have that in common and there both very large as well and have important places as well.
So I’m looking forward to finding out Texas does Dallas and how they handle the space as well, and I’m glad there going slow on the California rebuild because from what I already saw it literally looks like it will be on par with new states. If California was a new state being released people would be excited for it, right now as is not so much, and knowing that it’s the basemap the better it looks the more people will want to buy the other states.
I’m glad they started in Northern California because as you go south it gets busy, San Francisco Sacramento, now the Central Valley has some open space but even Fresno, it’s the largest city without an Interstate.
South of the Grapevine and the 58 it’s a lot to do. That will be the ultimate test. San Diego Los Angeles, will they have the Orange County sprawl, and I say have Ramos for freeways even if there not accessible. I’d say drop Carlsbad for San Bernardino, and I look forward to the San Diego rebuild as well. Being I live near Palm Springs I look forward to how much it resembles where I live. My two favorites though would have to be if they make the 14 a Freeway adding Mojave and Antelope Valley and the 15 from the 10 to Primm. I’m really curious how there going to handle the grades. Barstow needs a lot of work, and adding Baker and all. What would be so much fun is driving the 10 east to he 15 north and it’s built with buildings like real life then climbing the Cajon Pass to the desert and how it turns into open desert. Also having the 10 built out all he way to Palm Springs. I so hope the grade to Primm is added and I have to admit I’m really curious to see what other freeways they add and how they do ports.
It will be fun

I'm actually kinda interested with California if SCS is slowly reworking on that state whether we'll see Longreach or which ever suburb it was. I am pretty sure Los Angeles does have a shipping port
Re: Base Map Rebuild (CA, NV, AZ) General Discussion Thread
@Sara I think you are referring to Longbeach?. Yes Los Angeles has a shipping port. There are actually 2 side by side. Port of Long Beach and the Port of Los Angeles. Together, they are the busiest in the US.

@flight50 Ah yes, Longbeach. And I didn't know that. I guess I do learn something new. But I never really knew of the original rescaling, which is why when travelling through California, it feels, weird. Because I have recorded videos thinking that SCS should rescale the map to show off more of the map, and I was mostly using California for this reason, because Los Angeles didn't feel like Los Angeles for the most part.
But the other thing that is completely off is the light rail in San Francisco. I just went to take a look at Google Maps, and the light rail line looks like any other light rail line around the world, but in ATS, it feels like speed humps, considering it is different in the game. But I am very curious to what the remake of the map would be like once it is finished, not just for California, but for Nevada and Arizona. The only city which I do not think needs any rework is Las Vegas.

Las Vegas is good, it was reworked recently. I would still have them add the new stadium that's right next to I-15.

Re: Base Map Rebuild (CA, NV, AZ) General Discussion Thread
They added the 515 through Vegas, a badly needed addition, so now Vegas is much better than it was previously. I still think the surface streets could use some adjustments, but other than that, Vegas is great.
I'm excited for LA and the Bay Area, but I'm most intrigued to see what SCS does to rework San Diego. In-game, it just feels like an afterthought and does not look nor feel like real-life San Diego at all. It's a gorgeous city with plenty of ICC and touristy stuff, and I'd love to see SCS maximize its potential.

^Agreed. Vegas surface streets can use a little polising. More of the strip, Ikea would be nice West of 1-15, the stadium and 1-2 quarries around town would justify.

Las Vegas, think exit 64 add place to deliver Solar Panels for solar array in the desert, and add area to deliver fuel to Hearts Truck stop. Addition land marks--World Market Center off I-15 and I-515, Raiders Stadium and more accident lawyer billboards like New Mexico has. Rebuild Primm from the start to add more casinos and add eye-candy buildings and then another delivery of Solar Panels to Primm, but some parody outlet store.
