Western Star Trucks Discussion Thread
Re: Western Star Trucks Discussion Thread
A couple of things, 8x6 are extremely rare to see in a lift axle config, someone said it earlier as common which is nonsense
Axle spread is relative to the jurisdiction they will run in, most Canadian spec 8x4/8x6 for example will be on a 50" spread....more and more US HH carriers are moving to this as well where they can

I just started thinking about something...remember how the NEXT was supposed to be revealed this summer instead of now at the end of September? I wonder if SCS would have had the truck model ready for a release back then or if this additional time has allowed them to add it soon after this release

Most likely we'll never know.
I have approximate knowledge of many things

@dantastic:
Well we cannot actually say that, but most probably SCS would have had it both ways, assuming the actual launch happened in some June or so. Even if that wasn't the scenario, SCS would have released the truck by now, I believe the truck was just waiting to get launched since summer.

This isn't exactly true. Its regional based. No truck here in the South are like that from what I have witnessed in life. Most if not all lift axles down here are dual tires. In the PNW, the lift axles are single tires and can be baby tires. The PNW has a spread that doesn't exist down here. The 8x4's I always refer to are the full sized dual tires for all 3 axles and these are the common 8x4s in majority of the US in which aren't always different as stated. Powered 3rd axle or not, I don't care. I think ATS deserves a 3 axle for heavy duty no matter what.B787 wrote: ↑27 Sep 2020 13:22 If you watch US trucks carefully you will notice that the space between the axles is always different. At heavy haul chassis the rear three axles are mostly close together with the same space. In PNW style the 'middle' axle is more moved forward to the cab - different type of weight distribution like earlier said.
My post are only thoughts and ideas. Don't assume it makes ATS.

@flight50 Well, that's exactly what I wanted to say. Each chassis can be different.

Oh okay. I think if SCS caters to regions, that is when they get into needing to do too many options. The standards that majority of the country has works well imo. Even dedicated setups may or may not be worth it. PNW logging I think is used elsewhere but it could be worth it. I've seen 3 axle logging trucks in East Texas too. Dedicated car haulers is nationwide so that we could get even though such a setup is locked into only one purpose. Those 2 could be worth it.
I think we should get 4x2s before we get PNW 3 axle setups. Nationwide the US has 4x2, 6x2, 6x4 and 8x4. All these should be in ATS already as this point. Anything else would be bonuses.

Totally agree with you! For PNW we still can have mods, besides that they are very rare...
Re: Western Star Trucks Discussion Thread
I hope a few trucks will get an 8x4 chassis

@leo.arevalo12ss
How is 505hp not enough for heavy haul, I've seen other people say this but I don't really understand the reasoning.
I think proper transmission / gearing choice is far more important.
