That's what this is. DEF didn't start being used on trucks until around 2008-2009. The EPA required all new trucks after 2010 to have DEF. By making 2010 the oldest model year allowed, they're basically making it so that only trucks with DEF can be used.

You can retrofit newer engines into older trucks. People do it all the time.

Re: Kenworth Trucks Discussion Thread
I think I see a loophole in this as well, which I think people will take advantage of. The EPA started requiring DEF for trucks built after 2010, and California say that trucks must be 2010 model year and newer. But remember, manufacturers typically build the next model in the calendar year prior. Since this the Kenworth thread, I'll use them as an example. You can look at a 2010 T660 or T2000, and it won't have a DEF tank because those trucks were actually manufactured in 2009. The first model year that had a DEF appear was 2011, which would have been built in 2010. And if you look at a 2011 T660 or T700 (the replacement to the T2000, which ended production in 2010), you'll see that it has a DEF tank. So technically, you can get a 2010 model year truck, which was built in 2009, and drive in California without DEF.
Re: Kenworth Trucks Discussion Thread
I don't think it works this way. This document doesn't say "truck model year", it says "engine model year". And here you can see that they already thought about this loophole. Your 2010 truck won't pass (edit: well, it may pass for now, but it'll turn into pumpkin at midnight on December 31st 2022).
Re: Kenworth Trucks Discussion Thread
I have always felt its a shame the W900 and 389 is in such poor state and not even California legal since its the two most legendary models we have. Dont get me wrong, I drive all the trucks and I'm not one to focus on just one or two models, but its hard to argue against them, its the dream truck for most truckers out there still.
Wonder what truck I'd go for... I'd probably pick an Aero truck just for that little bit of extra efficiency, I mean, the Cascadia's now looks amazing, and the new Volvo's too, heck, many of them now actually look very nice so I dont even mind! Even if the classics are still the "coolest" ones!
In game right now I love the LT because the new 10 speed is just perfect! I want it for all trucks!!!
Also, I hope to see the first Electric truck soon...ish, but I feel like a major overhaul of the job and economy systems is needed first.

New 10 speed is nice but should of had a lower diff ratio imo. Same with the Endurant.
Re: Kenworth Trucks Discussion Thread
Its perfect for the speeds I drive, 55 - 60 mph... I know most people drive faster than that but I dont
