1.40 possibly it will be one of the biggest updates to ETS2 and ATS so far. And for sure with a very long Open Beta period.

Well, for now only think that's known is the new lighting.I won't say it's one of the biggest updates until more things are known.

1.40 could be one of the more impactful. That I can say. I don't think it will go as long as 1.37 did to introduce fmod. For the most part, the lighting will take care of itself. The time consuming part could be in making sure the textures and shadows cast the light properly. The light source.....is the light source and once that sweet spot is found, I'd imagine it is a set it and forget it. Now this weather change. It looks like SCS will slip in some variety in. DX11 opened some doors for sure. Looks like low visibility in bad weather kicks in. How immersive will that be. I remember on one of the blogs, Pavel mentioned fog. I think we have a shot at getting some of this now.

So lighting can affect some good things. Weather, skyboxes, textures and assets. I like the way the game looks now actually. I am content. But now the game will go up even another notch. So if you have a good pc, you will finally get to see more of what it can push out for what the game engine allows. I play on 200% scaling with everything maxed out. How will this affect things? How will everyone else be affected? I'm sure we all will be eager to find out. I build my pc well. Its now about 4 years old but very upgradable still. Only thing I'd have to change out is a new gpu to benefit more. My 1080 gtx still gets me 60+ fps consistently. Worst case, it can dip to 30-40fps but still very playable. But this is only in the most demanding cities.

Its cool to see how accepting the community is to the new lighting system though. Fmod wasn't so easy to convince a lot of people. Some still aren't happy. But you really have to point to modders to update to the new stuff. If SCS is to push forward and enhance their games, they have to leave things behind and its good to see them making those transition to better everyone's gaming experience. Its a fact that one can either upgrade their pc or get a new one up to the task. But what you won't see is people downgrading a pc. Things move forward, time moves forward and so does technology. People always request for better this or that then when it comes, there's a little resistance. To get this feature or that feature, the engine has to take baby steps forward. Pavel told us last year that a graphic overhaul and a sound overhaul was coming. Its taking some time but hey, we see the progress and dthe effort. Kudos form me.

Lighting less complicated as visuals are easier to be objective about what needs fixing. The fmod sound was complicated as sounds have nuanced or little differences that will annoy one user while make another happy thar certain sound of acoustic less vibrating.

Think 1.40 will be smaller update for ATS and 1.41 will be meaty one for ATS in mid summer.

Every new DLC has a compatibility patch that is released prior to launching the DLC.
