Aluminum trailers have their place but wood or even a combo is better than all aluminum.

I can understand wood getting used more in the North. Less oxidizing issues with wood. Aluminum doesn't rust but it does oxidize when exposed to water. With snow and rain, there is plenty in the North. You guys use salt up that way in the winter. Down here is sand. Here in Texas, most run Aluminum that I've seen. Doesn't mean I speak for all of Texas. Maybe heat matters as it drys out the climate faster. Just a guess, I don't really know. But I do know that what I witness down here is not wooden.

wood is easier to replace then aluminium, just go to the next hardware store and buy planks of wood, the aluminium profiles on the other hand are, most of the time, special made profiles for the trailer from the manufacturer, you wont find replacement for it as easy as with wood

Maybe it is just a local thing....almost every one I saw for sale in TX on truck paper was wood

I'm sure aluminum trailers probably have a coating on them that stops corrosion and oxidization. If we didn't coat aluminum, we wouldn't have things like road signs, guardrails, or traffic signals, which are all made of coated aluminum.

you dont really need to coat it, Aluminium isnt like Steel and will rot away over time when in contact with water, especial because aluminium is already "coating" itself with aluminium oxide wich is the protective layer for it, it will start to oxidise when you put a more "nobler" metal (dont know how to say it in english) on it, so that it will oxidise the aluminum

ofc anodized aluminum exist bu this is to make it more durable and it looks also nicer

Also people tent to underestimate wood ad a material when used on "built machinery" (or whatever could be named). People see it as "old tech" and deem it as the cheap option. When in reality several wood kinds have properties that made them better than metals for several applications.

In case you have steel and aluminum in the same construct you need to have a method to put an insulattion between the two materials othereise you wil have galvanic corrosion
With steel and wood it is easier to handle without this risk
Sorry, out of office

Yeah, similar metals will always cause corrosion. Exactly why car battery post and the connections corrode from the factory with most cars here in the US. I don't know about cars elsewhere.

I think the wood decks look pretty cool though. Its not something I see normally. When 1.39 goes lives, I'm definitely buying a double step deck 3 axle lowboy. I hope in due time, SCS adds cargo that utilizes both or one of the decks on the double step.

too bad the new lowboy trailers dont haul boats as a cargo.
like to explore new areas of maps for both ATS and ETS2.
