Wind

#1 Post by JeeF » 05 Aug 2021 06:17

I was looking at the US map just now and something occurred to me.
Among the next states to be released, Oklahoma is one of them.
Oklahoma has on average 52 tornados per year.
It would be nice to see better weather simulation going forward.
@Max , are there any plans to work on this area of the game in the future?

Wind is something that would help get the world feeling more alive.
Having wind in the game would allow us to have better climate simulation, with thunderstorms, trees swinging, etc.

Not to mention wind is something a truck driver needs to worry about. And driving around all the central states without ever experiencing wind would feel... odd.

I have actually seen the wind blow a tractor trailer over in R/L. But the trailer was empty at that time.

Trying to implement wind into ATS/ETS2 would be quite difficult I'd imagine. Trying to simulate what would happen to a trailer wouldn't be easy. They are better off avoiding wind on that type of level. The best we could get is slight wind burst that can blow debris around a road, feathers in the wind or leaves being blown in the wind. Those can be programmed to run realistically. Wind has to be dynamic and it just doesn't seem possible in terms of thinking how physics plays out to effect a tractor and trailer. It seems easy to do for the environment itself but for a moving vehicle, it could be tough.

Just imagine the funny physics glitches you can get.

Wind would be a cool feature. The effect wouldn't have to be so strong that it blows the trailer over but could just push you slightly out of your lane if you don't correct, depending on the shape of your trailer. It could also have an effect on fuel consumption, air resistance, and wind sound in the cab.

Hmmm...I could deal with getting pushed out of a lane. That is a lot more feasible. Still perhaps difficult to program no matter what.

Not just for the handling aspect...... the wind could also alter the fuel consumption
