Especially noteable on highway speeds in long left or right sweeps, where the wheel is kept at or near the critical point where this behavior occurs. Very unrealistic and personally ruins the driving experience.
I feel much the same, and have complained about what seem to be the exact same issues you're having. One thing that I've found that helps is setting the Steering Sensitivity slider to maximum. Don't ask me why, I know...it sounds totally counterintuitive, but it does seem to reduce the feeling of that center "almost-dead zone". It's almost like it takes that zone, and instead of the obvious areas just off-center where you bump up against the feel of the damping increasing, it's like those bumps get smoothed and spread out over a larger range. I feel like they're still there, but they're a lot less obvious. As far as non-linearity or degrees of rotation, this slider has no effect. In fact, I'm not really sure what it does (or is supposed to do), other than making that center zone feel actually tolerable now.

FWIW, if anyone's interested, I'm using a Fanatec CSL DD with a McLaren GT3 v2 wheel, with the following settings on the wheel itself:

SEN 900
FF 100
FFS PEAK
NDP 85
NFR 50
NIN OFF
INT 6
FEI 70
FOR 100
SPR 100
DPR 100
BLI (user preference)

In-game settings from my controls.ssi file:

Code: Select all

config_lines[42]: "constant c_ff_gain 9.000000"
 config_lines[43]: "constant c_ff_hi_spd 1.000000"
 config_lines[44]: "constant c_ff_lo_spd 0.000000"
 config_lines[45]: "constant c_ff_fricton 0.750000"
 config_lines[46]: "constant c_ff_engine 0.020000"
 config_lines[47]: "constant c_ff_surface 0.200000"
 config_lines[48]: "constant c_ff_bumps 0.750000"
 config_lines[49]: "constant c_ff_collis 0.500000"
I feel like this has a good amount of weight in the steering without feeling overly boosted. There's a reasonably strong desire to return to center, but it will do so fairly gradually once you release the wheel, instead of whipping back to zero as it's prone to doing with default settings. I'm still not 100% happy with it, but I've been changing settings so much these past few days, and this is the first time I've actually felt content to do a couple 1000+ mile jobs without changing anything, so I think I'll stick with these for now.

As a Fanatec wheelbase (CSW2) user myself, that's some interesting reading. I'll check my settings later and report back. ATM i've managed to dial in fairly OK settings in ETS2, but ATS is a mess for now.

The new .8s build brings changes that improved indeeed viewtopic.php?f=178&t=304328&start=370#p1623522

If i got you correct that could be the trailer swing effect on the truck chassis, you can confirm it's that by observing trailer movement doing a not so aggresive slalom at not so high speed(45-55mph), or simulating a sudden lane change to deviate from an obstacle

yep,I only tried it a few minutes and I can say it only for my G27,the update today is a BIG step forward,FFB feels very smooth and good now( without this hard intermediate point after turning or turning back) with standart settings, maybe a little bit fine tunning for the personal taste but all in all I like the new update :) FFB is much, much better than before

G29 feels a lot better to me now, I'm happy with it. I have sensitivity on full, linearity half and suspension stiffness on full (for the k100) and ffb settings on default just with bumps turned down a bit.

Here's my compromise regarding steering and FF with a Fanatec CSW2. Far from perfect, but will have to suffice for now.

Code: Select all

config_lines[41]: "constant c_ff_enabled 1.000000"
config_lines[42]: "constant c_ff_gain 9.000000"
config_lines[43]: "constant c_ff_hi_spd 0.900000"
config_lines[44]: "constant c_ff_lo_spd 0.250000"
config_lines[45]: "constant c_ff_fricton 1.500000"
config_lines[46]: "constant c_ff_engine 0.000000"
config_lines[47]: "constant c_ff_surface 0.000000"
config_lines[48]: "constant c_ff_bumps 0.000000"
config_lines[49]: "constant c_ff_collis 0.000000"
Wheelbase settings:

SEN - Aut
FF - 100
DRI - Off
FOR - 100
SPR - Off
DPR - 100
BLI - Off
SHO - Off
BRF - 50

I did experiment with higher friction (up to 3), but it seems that there's a point where the friction starts to blur out low speed centering forces and didn't want that either. I've ignored engine, surface etc for now as i want to dial in the steering first. IIRC higher wheelbase spring settings would amplify the unpleasant wobbling/shaking, so that might be something to look into at least for Fanatec users. I've turned it off completely.
I've never done that before, so I'm sure I can do it (Långstrump, Pippi)

Quote removed - Don't quote images/code boxes - Rule 2.3

Any luck with increasing the Steering Sensitivity to reduce the center wobble zone? I'm curious if I'm the only one.

I did already have the steering sensitivity maxed out (since as long as i can remember) and haven't touched that. I recall someone mentioning that the steering sensitivity slider is sort of "counter-intuitive" if that makes sense, but don't take my word on it. Maybe someone who actually knows this will chime in.

Yesterday I noticed that the physics of the Truck suspension turns the wheel, the center spring countered it and so the shaking happens. Went to the game play settings and found the option "suspension stiffness" that was 0, because realism. Changed it to ~30% and the shaking is now nearly gone. Takes it's time to adjust a physic based FFB when the physics are adjustable, too :D .

I have a question about WoT and the event that is currently underway, today I made one shipment with a Thrustmaster T248 load but I could not do another because I have not been offered any in external shipments, so the number of shipments is limited to one per day?
