International LT - I don't get it.

#1 Post by geebee75 » 13 Oct 2021 00:39

So this new truck SCS just released - the International LT - I don't get it. I mean, except for the hood it's basically the same truck as the LoneStar. Interior looks almost exactly the same.

So what's the point? Am I missing something?

you would have to ask International on that lol.

Jokes aside, Its little more for Highway use then on dirt roads while The lonestar is for any roads. Plus Its more cheaper then the Lonestar which is why is more common on roads.

If we follow your train of thought, then we shouldn't get the new FH, Actros 5, Renault T Facelift in ETS2 and we also shouldn't get the Mack Pinnacle and the new VNL in ATS. The point is that, the LT is a different truck, built for OTR work while the Lonestar is more of all rounder truck.

Every class 8 truck currently produced by International uses the same cab. Truck manufacturers save money by using the same parts and designs across multiple trucks. The same can be seen with the Freightliner Cascadia and Western Star 49X, both of which are manufactured by Daimler Trucks.

Every truck manufacturer has been doing this since the dawn of time. To add to other people's examples Kenworth is among the easiest to notice this concept. Throughout many years in their production the W900, T600 and T800 all shared identical cab/sleeper systems. Even today it's still true with the T680, T880 and W990. Peterbilt, Freightliner, Western Star, they all did it at some point and continue to do it in one way or another. It's just not as noticable in the game yet with the first two models each from Peterbilt and KW having different cab designs from one another. The International LT is just the beginning.

Is Prostar still in production? Also 9900i had a different cab. Even the previous version of LoneStar had a different dashboard IIRC.

Edit: Prostar is no more in production. Also, the last Prostar model seems to have a similar sleeper as the current one.

@harishw8r, the later years of the 9900i (2018 or so) actually did adopt the newer International Sky Rise Sleeper style (don’t have pics handy at the moment but you can easily Google them). But yes, aside from the Sky Rise Sleeper, the 9900i did primarily contain standalone sleeper variants specific to that model. The same goes for the Mack Pinnacle. The newer model Pinnacle adopts Mack’s new style sleeper.

In my opinion, the older style Pinnacle and 9900i had hi rise sleepers that looked very similar!

I know thst manufacturers share cabs and components. I guess my question is, what was the point in putting a near duplicate of a truck you already have? If you want to add a truck, maybe do a newer improved model, or, do some older classics. Say, a long-nose 90’s International. Or earlier.

Seems odd having the same truck with a different hood that’s all.

Truck licensing... I just went to International Trucks website to check the trucks and I don't see this "near duplicate" thing between Lonestar and LT. To be honest I see as much difference as there is between different series of Audi/BMW, All are copy-paste with small differences under the hood and a bit different outside here and there. In the end, if manufacturer wants to push LT before some other models, SCS will probably take that and count on "favor for favor" in future. Which I am guessing can work like: "We did this truck for you, and people like it, but they really want this one. Can we agree something there...".
