How to safely cross the RR crossing in ATS

#1 Post by piva » 11 Feb 2017 18:00

I can't cross RR crosing in Tucson - each time I get damage from train or barrier.
As usual ATS team forgot attribite for train in def file :lol:
I add safe_distance to default "traffic_vehicle_type.sii"

traffic_vehicle_type : traffic.vehicle_type.train_cargo
{
allowed_lane_type[]: "*train.cargo"

spawn_ratio: 0.1

spawn_max_count: 2

spawn_trailer_count[]: 5
spawn_trailer_count[]: 6
spawn_trailer_count[]: 7
spawn_trailer_count[]: 8
spawn_trailer_count[]: 9
spawn_trailer_count[]: 10
spawn_trailer_count[]: 11
spawn_trailer_count[]: 12

suspension_coef: 0.0
deceleration_limit: 3.0
safe_distance: 50000

attachable_trailer_type[]: train_car

storage_path: "/def/vehicle/traffic_storage_train_cargo.sii"
}

traffic_vehicle_type : traffic.vehicle_type.train_pass
{
allowed_lane_type[]: "*train.passenger"

spawn_ratio: 0.1

spawn_max_count: 1

spawn_trailer_count[]: 3
spawn_trailer_count[]: 4
spawn_trailer_count[]: 5

suspension_coef: 0.0
deceleration_limit: 3.0
safe_distance: 50000

attachable_trailer_type[]: train_car

storage_path: "/def/vehicle/traffic_storage_train_pass.sii"
}

Now I don't have problem.

What does the safe_distance attribute do? Make the train spawn further away, or would it be telling the train to "stay back"?

Close your eyes, brace and floor it.

I don't know, but look like next train not spawned untill safe distance less this value.

Usually you are supposed to come to a complete stop and look both ways before proceeding.
If it is stupid but it works, it isn't stupid.

That's of exactly zero help if you then cross the tracks and your trailer gets smashed by the barrier going down for the next train, as has happened to me a number of times.

Sounds like a bug that needs to be reported.

If you're hauling a Hazmat load, yes. Otherwise, there isn't anything saying you have to.

Tucson is the one with 2 trains, then one, then 2 I believe. It's about timing, I've found. If you're in line waiting and there's one train, gates come up then come right down, maybe one car went through then comes the second train. After that clears, usually the line will clear in front of you before the gates come down again. This time it's one train, but don't dawdle, have it in gear and creeping forward, ready to pounce.
