Map Editor Broken [MOD]

#1 Post by bobgrey1997 » 20 Oct 2017 18:59

I posted this in the Technical Problems section:
bobgrey1997 wrote: 20 Oct 2017 18:35 I have been working on a map mod for a while now and need new roads and prefabs for the 1-1-1 roads that were added during the Arizona development. I hope that they may have included some of them in this update into the editor. To find out, I try to load my map, but it crashes. I didn't worry too much about that as I expected the beta to break my map anyway, so I decided to simply open a new editor, using the ~edit command. Still crashes. Here is what the log shows after I use the command:

The issue seems to be with the road_look.sii file. I do have the FLD Prefabs, but they use a different set of sii files.
At the time, I had the FLD Prefabs, so I didn't post this in bugs, but now, I got rid of all my mods. I still have this issue. What did the update do to the road_look file? This issue happened on the rescale beta as well. Some people are still able to open the editor, so it's not a universal issue, it just happens to some people? Can anyone help?

Try without mods then. It's not a good idea to load the editor with many random mods.
It's not a full log but I can see mods being loaded there.

Firstly, read the Forum Rules. Specifically rule [2.9] Cross posting is not allowed, that is only one post per issue/discussion is allowed on the forum. Creating two threads on the same subject is not allowed. Nor is posting the same post on several different threads. I have deleted your two other posts.

Secondly, you've evidently got outdated mods that are messing with the road looks. Remove ALL mods and then test. This means Workshop mods as well. Also verify your game cache, shouldn't make any difference but you never know.

Apparently both of you missed this key bit of information...

No I didn't miss that key bit of information. I also didn't miss the fact that half of your game log is missing.

That is the log from when I did have my mods, like I had already said. Did you notice that it was in the quoted section? The quote from my post when I had the FLD Prefabs? I did mention that I did have it, didn't I?
When I opened this thread, I had no mods. I also did not repost my game log, I just mentioned that I had the same issue. The road_look errors were still there, even with no mods. I did not lie, so I should not be accused of doing so. I was in the process of reinstalling my entire game when I opened this thread. It now works, even with the FLD Prefabs. I would still like to know more about this in case it happens again. I did mention that a similar issue happened during the rescale update? I simply had to stop playing until the update went out of beta or revert back (which broke some signs in my map mod, forcing me to delete and re-build those entire sectors). This time, a re-install fixed it. If anyone has any information on what causes the base files (not from mods) to break in beta updates, please let me know so if it happens again in a future beta, there may be some solutions.
Thank you.

Need actual game log crash file to see cause of crashes and FLD mod may be setup in sii files to cause conflicts with main game files.

Look at sii scs modding guide too see correct way of naming prefabs so they don't cause conflicts with scs items.

It's more trail and error to find issuses.

Right, I see now. Still it's confusing the way you posted it. If you'd had posted the game.log.txt from the last crash it would have made more sense. Anyway, any mod should not affect the base files, so I'm not sure what happened there. I guess the only thing that could have affected it is the defaults.ini in Documents\American Truck Simulator\editor folder. When you are playing around with custom assets in a mod it can sometimes get a bit funky.

Yes, I know about sii files and how to edit them. FLD renames all of his file to read "[base file name].[custom tag].[file type] where [base file name] is the name of the file, such as "road_look", [custom tag] is either "fld" or "cz" as far as I can find, and [file type] is the type of file, in this case "sii".
So, this road look file would be "road_look.fld.sii" Individual prefabs and roads, such as a 3 lane one-way road, is named as "hw3_oneway_fld.pmd so that it won't conflict with any other "hw3_oneway" file
I don't have the old logs anymore because I uninstalled my game and reinstalled it. I just didn't know if there was any information on what all gets changed in betas that tends to break base game files somehow. I know that it is a beta update, so its expected that things will break, I just don't know if there is any information as to what SCS changes each time, that could help to fix the issues. In this case, the beta seemed to do something to the road_look file, I just don't know what. After having my editor fixed, I noticed that in the additional items in the properties of some prefabs that new items such as cracks, patches, potholes, and drains are now optional, so maybe that has something to do with the road_look file?

Thank you for the information on the ini file. I will look into that. Sorry for the confusion. I didn't think about this as a "bug" until I was reading on the forums while waiting for my game to reinstall. By that time, it was too late!
It is fixed now, though, but perhaps the next time something happens like this, I could look into that file and see if anything could be fixed. The joys of a game that people can't help but mod the crap out of! My time in this game consist of:
80%: Making mods
12%: Fixing
8%: Playing
At least I have fun with it!

First: I have no clue what the problem might be. I didn't even tried to understand it, because I mod ETS 2 only, and there is no beta out for that, now. Just one thought:

Of course you could have a sneak peek into a beta's map editor. I did the same, yesterday, just out of curiosity. But better don't do real edits. Wait till release, to get an official "modding guide" for 1.29. Sometimes, there is much more to do than a simple "recompute". If you don't know the necessities, you could easily damage your work. Or have to revert to a backup, if you have one. :)
