Which Compression for DDS and OpenGL?
Which Compression for DDS and OpenGL?
Ok for years I havent had any problems with my map as far as textures go however the past couple of major updates
I have had OpenGL users saying that textures which have been fine in the past have now started turning Black.
There are no error messages in their logs and Ive even tried starting both the editor and game in OpenGL mode.
However my graphics card ( Asus ROG Strix Radeon RX 570 8G OC ) does not like OpenGL at all and the entire Map
turns into a rainbow basically.
So question I have is which compression Method for DDS are SCS now using that is both DirectX and OpenGL Compatible? I normally use Photoshop however have downloaded Paint.net
as my version of Photoshop does not have these compression methods.

Which method have you been using before?
DXT5 should be the best choice

If you’re on windows and using Photoshop CS 5 or 6 you should be able to download Nvidia’s plugin for DDS. It will let you open and save dds files and normal maps in photoshop.

Re: Which Compression for DDS and OpenGL?
Ive been saving in Photoshop with those tools with DXT5 for years something has changed in the compression. @BK Vissers Its the same thing that turned the Dalton Highway sign black at the start of the Dalton. However if you recall that was ages ago. Pretty sure it was BC4 that solved it Im just not sure though. DXT5 in photoshop didnt work if I recall for OpenGL it just showed up black again.

Ah, I’m sorry then, I afraid I don’t know.
I vaguely recall trying uncompressed but it does bloat the files terribly.

Yeah man it was back in 1.37 I mentioned it here viewtopic.php?f=194&t=213559&start=2820#p1377140
Just checked one texture which is turning up black in OpenGL and it is DXT5 according to Windows Texture Viewer from NVIDIA.
Wish Id mentioned what exactly I did though lolTested Compatibility with OpenGL - this was a real pain as something changed the James W Dalton Highway sign again and it took me
about 8 hours to figure out what was wrong, download a new paint program and fix the darn thing.
If anyone using OpenGL (Mac and Linux users) spots anything that has turned BLACK or PINK please let me know in this thread
and post a screenshot please.

Re: Which Compression for DDS and OpenGL?
Have you tried Dxt5A?
Re: Which Compression for DDS and OpenGL?
This is a problem with AMD's latest drivers. I found that if you go back to an older version of the drivers (Adrenalin 20.9.1) then OpenGL works correctly. See here: Textures working weird.
Re: Which Compression for DDS and OpenGL?
Thx @Josh0 AMD certainly does have some wonderful issues with their drivers.

Have you tried DDS 888-8 32bit?
